'Safe working environment' wanted for
degreasing

The annual EnSolv roadshow, a UK seminar discussing metal and plastics degreasing found 90% of delegates surveyed listed 'safe working environment' as their most essential objective.

Figures compiled between 2001-2005 have revealed the priority of companies around the UK The annual EnSolv roadshow, a seminar discussing metal and plastics degreasing which visits Cities to discuss legislation, has documented the most common needs of manufacturers of finished and semi-finished products

90% of delegates surveyed listed 'safe working environment' as their most essential objective.

78% considered it vital to reduce levels of chemical use and with it create less emissions to atmosphere.

70% demanded reliability in the quality of products they used in their cleaning processes with 64% saying regard for the environment was an issue.

Most delegates attending the roadshow were users of Trichloroethylene (Trike), a known Carcinogen, and were searching for a suitable alternative.

When asked if existing product suppliers had offered technical support to help them understand and meet legislation needs, 70% said they had infrequent contact fom their supplier.

Though it will always be a factor in assessment only 30% indicated price as their top five priority with 70% indicating performance and real value for money was more essential.

Asked to design their ideal solvent for vapour degreasing the following characteristics were highlighted: * Low Toxixity.

* Non Flammable.

* High Solvency Power.

* Mid Boiling Point.

* Helpful In Reducing Consumption And Emissions.

* Not Classified As A Carcinogen.

* No Measurable Residue.

* Compatible With Light Alloys.

* Non Ozone Depleting.

* Low Global Warming Potential.

* Capable Of Use In Existing Equipment.
