Rapid prototyping goes into production too
Laser-sintering saves time and money for prototyping during product development, but can now also be used in production too. EOS will show how at the K 2001 show in Duesseldorf, Germany.
As part of the agreement, TMG has acquired an EOSINT P 700 laser-sintering system with a double laser facility.
It joins an existing EOS P 360 fast prototyping machine at TMG.
John Mitchell, head of TMG's Composites Department says: "We are convinced that laser-sintering technology from EOS will help us to assure the quality of our new racing car." Apparently TMG had compared several rapid prototyping systems and found the EOSINT P 360 to be the most efficient for building fully functional, single-piece plastics parts with complex geometries.
After some surface finishing, the sintered parts for car wings and other sections are used for thorough design and functional testing - including wind tunnel testing - on the car.
The EOSINT P 700 has a 1m build volume diagonal which will enable TMG to do larger, single-piece car body parts The EOSINT P 700 uses two lasers to speed up the fast prototyping process for plastics - in this case, polyamides.
The build volume is 700mm by 380mm by 580mm.
The EOSINT P360 has a building volume of 340mm by 340mm by 620mm.
