on safety
Latest version of a fast prototyping system for the laser sintering of plastics has up-to-date electrical and machine safety features that comply with European, Asian and North American standards.
EOS, the world's leading manufacturer of laser-sintering machines, will announce new developments to their laser-sintering systems, materials and resulting applications at this year's EuroMold The company has recently introduced a new version of its P 3xx series for laser-sintering of plastics: the Eosint P 380i incorporates the latest electrical and machine safety features that comply with all relevant European, Asian and North American standards

Laser sinter systems meet Formula One pressures
Two laser sintering systems - including a double-laser one - manufacture hour by hour racing car components directly from thermoplastic powders on the basis of three-dimensional CAD data.
The machine offers a large build envelope of 340mm x 340mm x 620mm and includes EOS' patented exchangeable frame system for rapid job turnaround and user-friendly handling.
With the new process software PSW V3.1, it offers improved features for e-Manufacturing, such as automatic job start, and integrated messaging system (IMS) for remote monitoring of the job status.
At EuroMold 2004, the company will introduce further hardware and software developments to provide improved component quality and detail resolution as well as increased system productivity.

Laser sintering expertise brought to the UK
German rapid prototyping systems maker is bringing a wealth of rapid manufacturing technology and experience based on laser-sintering machines and metals, plastics and sands powders.
Laser very fine grain metal powders to make moulds
TransCAT took only 16h using very fine-grained metal powders in a laser-sintering system to build the core and cavity of a plastics injection mould for producing thin-walled fan wheels.
EOS recently introduced an improved polyamide (nylon) material called PrimePart that offers higher detail resolution, thereby opening up new application areas for Eosint P users.
Combination of higher system productivity and reduced cost per part are driving factors for the increased use of laser-sintering for series production of end-use parts, which is a growing trend.
EOS is also investigating and developing further new and improved materials for its plastic laser-sintering machines.
At its International User Meeting in May, the company presented a world-first prototype fire-retardant material, which is rated VO according to the UL94 specification for wall thicknesses greater than 2mm.
Further developments are ongoing in collaboration with Eosint P customers.
Additional development areas are materials with high impact strength as well as filled materials based on PrimePart, eg for improved strength and stiffness.
Under the brand name AutoFinish, EOS has developed various automated processes for efficiently smoothing and processing component surfaces after the building process, for example coating and polishing techniques, which also further expand the possibilities of e-Manufacturing.
Featured also at EuroMold 2004 will be the Eosint M 270 machine and the tool steel material, DirectSteel H20, for direct metal laser-sintering (DMLS).
Thanks to its full density and very high hardness and strength, the material is used for building series production tooling as well as heavy-duty parts.
The Eosint M 270 has expanded the application range of DMLS by enabling finer detail resolution and higher productivity, and is now being used to open up new possibilities through the development of materials such as stainless steel, titanium alloys and other biocompatible alloys.
EOS will show various examples of these developments and applications at the exhibition.
