An end-to-end Unique Identification system helps manufacturers comply with the US Department of Defense mandate requiring identification of all high value and mission-critical items.
Epic Data International, a leading provider of automated data capture and production execution solutions for discrete manufacturers, showcased its end-to-end Unique Identification (UID) solution at the UK's 45th Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) FIA is the largest aerospace and defense show in Europe and has attracted over 133,000 industry representatives in previous years

Manufacturing production data caught automatically
Collaborative Manufacturing Execution suite is an electronic 'nervous system' for discrete manufacturing organizations and captures data automatically from every touch point in production.
Materials management system shows materials flow
An inventory management module in a materials management system helps move towards a lean, demand-driven manufacturing supply chain by creating visibility of material flows.
The UID solution demonstrated by Epic Data at the show was launched in response to the IUID mandate issued by the US Department of Defense (DoD).
This mandate requires all defense contractors to uniquely identify all high value and mission-critical items they supply to the DoD with a 2D data matrix ID mark containing a Unique Item Identifier (UII).
Epic Data's UID solution features the I-GUIDES UID data management application from Lockheed Martin and VektorMark laser markers from Trumpf.
This is complemented by Epic Data's fault-tolerant, messaging middleware which allows the UID data to be shared with various corporate back-end systems, such as ERP, MRP, and Quality applications.
Other components of the UID solution include Epic Data access terminals, 2D data matrix scanners and verification units.
Epic Data is committed to the Department of Defense's UID initiative to allow tracking of critical parts and, most importantly, to facilitate process improvements within the contractor operations such that they can also realize economic improvements associated with UID tracking.
