Metal detectors check plastics scrap
before re-use

Three tunnel-type metal detectors prevent metal contamination in scrap plastics to ensure a steady and continuous feed of recyclable material to granulators.

Wavin, one of Europe's largest manufacturers of plastic systems for the building, construction and utilities industries, recently installed three Eriez tunnel-type Model 20C Metal Detectors at their UK headquarters in Chippenham, Wiltshire Wavin looked to Eriez to provide a solution to metal contamination which would also ensure a steady and continuous feed of recyclable material to their granulators

Wavin collect and store plastic waste, comprising of sprues and other waste parts, in large storage bins.

Before being fed to granulators the contents of the bins are decanted onto an inclined inspection table where any over-sized pieces are removed and water is drained out from the material through the table's perforated deck.

Before the Eriez Model 20C Metal Detectors were installed this plastic waste had to be hand-fed into the granulators and manually checked for any metal contaminants.

Now, the material is tipped onto the metal detectors' 'intralox' conveyor belts, specially fitted with friction strips, and passed through the metal detectors.

If no metal is detected, the material then falls down an integral chute into the granulator.

However, if metal is detected the belt stops and a combined siren / beacon is triggered to signal which of the three metal detectors has tripped.

All three metal detector units are fully mobile giving maximum versatility on site. Request a free brochure from Eriez Magnetics Europe ...
