Track-guided welding is digitally
programmed

Modular, track-guided products are now available for portable, programmable, semi-automated welding and cutting operations with a choice of digital programming units.

ESAB has announced that the full range of Railtrac 1000 modular, track-guided products is now available for portable, programmable, semi-automated welding and cutting operations A choice of digital programming units is offered, depending on the functions required, and both are fully sealed for use outdoors

Stainless steel and high-grade aluminium alloys are used extensively for the hardware to ensure that it will withstand use in harsh environments.

A wide selection of options and accessories is offered to complement the four core packages of Railtrac F1000 (Flexi), FW1000 (Flexi Weaver), FR1000 (Flexi Return) and FWR1000 (Flexi Weaver Return).

These systems will operate with a variety of ESAB's Mig power sources and wire feeders and can be programmed for welding speeds of 100 to 1500mm/min (or 50 to 990mm/min for the reduced-speed Railtrac FW1000L).

The Railtrac F1000 is a mechanised system with a flexible combi-rail for inside and outside welding.

In addition, the F1000 can be used for thermal cutting.

While the FR1000 Flexi Return is similar to the F1000, it benefits from additional sensors that enable the tractor to stop at the end position and automatically return to the start for applications where multiple weld runs are required.

Broadly similar in concept to the Railtrac F1000, the FW1000 Flexi Weaver has no return function, but it has a facility for producing a number of different weave patterns.

As well as the digital programming box, the FW1000 is also supplied with a user-friendly remote control unit.

The FWR1000 Flexi Weaver Return has the weaving capabilities of the FW1000 with the additional sensors that, as with the FR1000, enable the tractor to return to the start position for multiple weld runs.

In all cases the track is flexible and plain sided (with no rack drive), and therefore closely follows curved surfaces, as it is held in place by either magnetic or vacuum clamps.

For flat surfaces, a stiffener bar can be added - and the same tractor can run on both types of rail.

Railtrac 1000 systems can be programmed for continuous or intermittent welding, and a backfill function is standard as an alternative to crater filling.

As many as five welding programmes can be stored in the programming box, each of which can be retrieved via the control unit or, where fitted, the remote control.

During welding, potentiometers on the remote control unit allow the welding current and voltage to be adjusted.

While the four core packages are suitable for a wide variety of welding and cutting applications, ESAB also offers numerous accessories that further broaden the equipment's scope.

These include tilt and turn units for the weaving models, pivoted torch holders, a 'floating' head, cutting torches, an X-Y slide, and 'snap' connectors for rapidly joining sections of flexible combi-rail. Request a free brochure from ESAB ...
