Automation solutions for prepress workflow
Glatz Klischee has invested in a range of automating and processing solutions for prepress workflow from Esko, including their webcentre, which serves as a central communication tool.
WebCenter 6.0 has a completely redesigned, and easier to operate, user interface; a dedicated window to view, mark up and approve jobs; discussion threads; searches based on approval status; and automatic project creation from Scope's BackStage workflow server.
"In the packaging supply chain, it is important to supply the 'glue' between all parties - making it easy for everyone to collaborate and share files easily," comments Jan De Roeck, Esko's Marketing Director for packaging software.

Esko Visualizer marks another leap forward
Esko, the leading global system integrator for packaging pre-production, announces Esko Visualizer, a new component of the Esko Software Suite 7.
"It is a communication platform that brings together all supply chain partners to discuss jobs, provide approvals, deliver 3-D views of products and their packaging, and even create new jobs automatically".
"WebCenter is the users' window to the integrated Scope software." Faster product to market and significant error reduction WebCenter is used by all partners in the packaging supply chain, such as folding carton, corrugated and label converters, prepress tradeshops, and consumer product companies.
From designers and sales professionals, to IT and marketing experts, WebCenter significantly contributes to increased efficiency, reduced errors, and helps bring products to market faster.
Users browse or search catalogs of projects using a standard web browser.
In doing so, WebCenter resolves a number of customer pain points, such as viewing and resolving different versions of a document; communicating across the entire packaging supply chain; providing approvals from structural and graphic files to other files like Word, Excel, JPEG images, or even palletization files; providing an advanced search engine for locating files; and allowing global communication and collaboration 24/7 with the ability to 'speak' multiple languages.
WebCenter customers typically generate huge savings on shipment and travel costs, and resolve bottlenecks in the approval cycle.
WebCenter 6.0 presents a number of far-reaching enhancements: New user interface: WebCenter now features an easier to use interface with quick access to a number of viewing, measuring, and discussion tools.
Wizards have been developed for activities that require multiple steps, such as uploading documents, setting up approvals, starting a discussion thread, and creating a project.
These tools and the new user interface make it even easier for new users to get working quickly.
Metadata is automatically extracted from CAD and graphic files, so there are no typing errors.
Dedicated window to view, mark up and approve files: A new WebCenter viewer has been created for the inspection, markup and approval of both CAD and graphic files.
Details can be measured with accuracy, approvals can be made, and versions can be compared in one screen.
A measurement tool snaps to points for accurate measurement of widths, lengths, distances and angles, while a densitometer accurately measures each ink and total ink coverage.
When more than one version is available, the Compare tool highlights the differences.
The notes tool tracks who said what, and when.
A 'reply' can allow the user to respond to a question or comment and all related notes are kept together in a single window.
Discussion Threads: Discussion threads can be added to both projects and documents, created by an author and containing one or more posting, in response to an original posting.
Users can create as many discussion threads as they want, each covering a specific topic or question.
Search tools: WebCenter's search engine instantly finds projects and documents, searching on any metadata.
It works like any common Internet search engine, with support for wildcards, contextual searches, and conjunctions (AND, OR, NOT).
Historical information can be located days, weeks, months or years later.
Users can also save their common search criteria for future use with a single click.
Automatic Project creation from BackStage: BackStage, Esko's workflow automation software, can create a project if one does not exist, from a template, to upload files for view, markup, and approval.
Templates can contain documents, belong to customers, invite a pre-defined list of project members, and automatically set their permissions.
BackStage can automatically select a template and project name based on user-defined 'SmartNames'.
