Controlling annealing and end tempering furnace temperatures precisely is a key factor in producing steels for razor blades as well as using sensors in the moulding systems for the razor bodies.

Supermax Corp of India, the world's second largest manufacturer of disposable razor blades said that the key to achieving a good quality product depends greatly, but not exclusively, on the precise control of temperature within furnaces used for making the steel, and in annealing and end tempering furnaces in razor blade manufacture Eurotherm controllers are used in both applications as well as in the injection moulding process for the razor body and in special purpose printing machines

Supermax asked Eurotherm to provide the temperature control for the company's uniquely designed production machines.

"By using Eurotherm controllers, accurate PID control performance has been maintained.

This has provided Supermax with the high standard of temperature accuracy and uniformity demanded by the company.

As a result their production facilities worldwide maintain a consistent high quality which in turn reduces scrap and increases productivity," said Kalpesh Desai Eurotherm's sales manager in India.

In total Eurotherm have supplied two hundred and fifty 3216 PID temperature controllers and four hundred and sixty single phase thyristor units to Supermax together with other products.

Supermax are establishing production facilities in Mexico, Bangladesh and Czech Republic and will be supplying all the manufacturing machines for these sites from their Mumbai sites utilising Eurotherm instrumentation.

Supermax is headquartered in Mumbai with manufacturing facilities in a number of locations including Hyderabad and produce 10 million conventional double sided razors and 1.2 million disposable razors per day.

These are produced for both local and export markets including UK, USA and Europe.

The razors are marketed under different brand names worldwide but sales are second only to Gillette worldwide.
