30 UK West Midlands subcontractors, who are 3rd and 4th tier suppliers to the automotive industry, could gain significant new business with the aid of marketing grants.

Up to 30 West Midlands subcontractors, who are 3rd and 4th tier suppliers to the automotive industry, could gain significant new business with the aid of marketing grants from the Accelerate Programme The grant will enable local companies to exhibit at the Midlands Manufacturing exhibition, which will be held at the NEC Pavilion, Birmingham, 24th-25th of March 2004

For local companies searching for new business opportunities, Midlands Manufacturing is the one arena where they can make face-to-face contact with key purchasing teams and engineers from the region.

Unlike the vast majority of shows at the NEC, there is no overriding national agenda for Midlands Manufacturing.

It is there for one reason only, to serve the interests of all manufacturing companies in the region Exhibitions generate new business.

But, for a company that's never exhibited before it is still largely uncharted territory.

That's why the Accelerate Programme and other regional agencies make funds available; so that a potential exhibitor finds it easier to take that initial plunge.

Grants available can be up to 50% of exhibiting costs.

But because the terms and conditions vary depending on the support agency and the manufacturer's location, the best bet is to phone the organisers who can immediately advise on what grant is available and if you qualify.

Don't worry the organisers also look after the paperwork.

Exhibitors at Midlands Manufacturing comprise local and national companies who have something to offer the major OEMs in the region.

Visitors are made up from those very major OEMs, and other companies from the supply chain that makes up the region's manufacturing base.

These include 1st and 2nd tier suppliers in the automotive supply chain as well as other industries important to the region.

If the grant money alone is not enough to persuade anyone to explore gaining new business by exhibiting then perhaps the research carried out across last year's grant recipient companies who exhibited might.

Their average lead count was 20 per company, average spend after grant on exhibiting costs was GBP 1,200 and average annual order values as a result of exhibiting was GBP 123,000.

That's a whopping return on investment by anyone's standards.

The total Accelerate fund is capped so that once it's gone it's gone.

At this point in time funds remain to sponsor around 30 companies.

It's definitely a case of "it's the early bird that gets the grant".
