The bespoke materials handling solutions being presented by Excel Automation at the IMHX exhibition will highlight the company's in-house engineering skills.

The tremendous diversity of bespoke materials handling solutions being presented by Excel Automation on stand 17R150 at this year's IMHX exhibition will highlight the company's extensive proven in-house engineering skills in creating effective handling schemes, from designing and building modular conveyor systems to major turnkey projects, often undertaking assignments that others shy away from The main feature on the stand will be an inductive powered transfer [IPT] system demonstrating the versatility and core benefits this technology brings to the handling market

IPT combines two parts, primary and secondary which are magnetically coupled, similar to a conventional transformer.

The primary consists of a track power supply and track cable embedded in the floor and running either side of the guide channel.

The pickups and pickup regulators (the secondary element), are mounted on a transfer trolley.

Unlike a conventional transformer, where primary and secondary are tightly coupled, the IPT is a loosely coupled system, and allows power to be transferred across 5mm air gaps due to the high operating frequency of 10 kHz to 25 kHz.

At its main production plant in Worcester Excel Automation designs and builds many and varied handling solutions, many of the bespoke systems drawing on the companies skills of utilising and even adapting standard products such as powered belt, roller, slat and chain conveyors.

The plant also boasts an extensive machine shop and electro-static powder coating facility, adding to the overall in-house capabilities of this leading British company.

Also featured on stand 17R150 is Excelvayor, an under-belt powered roller conveyor developed by Excel Automation that will enable warehouse and logistics organisations to trim operational costs due to reduced maintenance, improved throughput and less damage to product on-line.

The conveyor being featured is a Stainless Steel model, other build materials can be considered to match niche requirements.

Excel has built solutions as diverse as a special skip-tipper for an overseas waste management company, order picking conveying systems for distribution centres, automated storage and retrieval systems for hi-bay warehouses, and shuttle vehicles for the transfer below ground of radioactive waste, overhead monorail conveyor for component transfer as well as production and assembly lines for manufacturing industries in the UK, Europe and America.

This is just a snap-shot of the diverse market sectors served by Excel Automation.

The main emphasis of this year's display is that of designing and building bespoke, unique handling solutions, harnessing the inherent strengths of the company's mechanical and electrical engineering skills, allowing it to undertake turnkey projects including pre-site testing, installation and on-site commissions.
