Ethernet formats tested on same platform
Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering has announced the availability of a new software suite for its FTB-8510G Packet Blazer 10 Gigabit Ethernet test module.
Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering has announced the availability of a new software suite for its FTB-8510G Packet Blazer 10 Gigabit Ethernet test module that significantly enhances performance assurance and quality of service (QoS) testing in local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) applications As 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) is increasingly becoming commonplace in core networks, customers must thoroughly test their converged IP-based systems to ensure conformance to service-level agreements (SLAs), since delay-sensitive applications like voice- and video-over-IP are increasingly being introduced

Analysis software for field-test applications
EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering has released the EXpert Network Protocol Analyzer (NPA), a software solution that enables network service providers to quickly and easily identify network problems.
10 GigE is now being regarded as a means to aggregate bandwidth over an xWDM platform in order to leverage the optical link already installed at a fraction of the cost of OC-192/STM-64 (10 Gig Sonet/SDH) technology.
Having the capability to test 10 GigE and 10 Gig Sonet/SDH within the same platform decreases cost of ownership while adding more flexibility.
The additional features in this new software suite elevate the FTB-8510G Packet Blazer to new heights in terms of functionality and ease-of-use.

FTTx technology and testing book and video
EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering has released both a book and video on FTTx technology and testing as part of its series of reference materials on next-generation networking technologies.
New features such as multi-stream generation and analysis, expert mode and service-disruption measurements, combined with existing capabilities like LAN and WAN PHY interfaces on the same module, RFC 2544 testing (a well-known Ethernet-based test methodology that includes such parameters as frame losses, throughput and latency), packet jitter measurement and bit-error-rate (BER) testing, provide a complete test solution that enables customers to thoroughly test Ethernet performance assurance on 10 GigE links.
All of these features are available on the FTB-8510G Packet Blazer 10 GigE test module.
The FTB-8510G Packet Blazer, an interchangeable test module housed inside Exfo's world-class and widely deployed FTB-400 Universal Test System, is ideally suited for field and central office applications.
"The addition of key features, such as multi-stream, expert mode and service-disruption tests, as well as RFC 2544 and BER testing, positions Exfo's Packet Blazer 10 GigE analyzer as the unequivocal reference in the performance assessment of Ethernet transport networks," said Benoit Fleury, Exfo's Vice-President of Protocol-Layer Product Management.
"This major enhancement, combined with our existing Ethernet and Fibre Channel test modules as well as our recently introduced four-slot receptacle, provides a compact data communication test solution for our well-established FTB-400 platform.
By integrating optical, telecom and datacom modules within the same platform, users now have a value-added test system that can be scaled to their particular needs.".
