Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering has announced the introduction of the FTB-8115 Transport Blazer Sonet+SDH module for the FTB-400 Universal Test System and FTB-200 Compact Platform.

Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering has announced the introduction of the FTB-8115 Transport Blazer Sonet+SDH module for the FTB-400 Universal Test System and FTB-200 Compact Platform The combination of advanced Sonet+SDH testing capabilities and the small, lightweight form factor of the FTB-200 platform delivers the industry's most versatile and technically advanced portable Sonet/SDH test solution for expanding access/metro transport networks

The FTB-8115 Transport Blazer, available in 155 Mb/s (OC-3/STM-1) or 622 Mb/s (OC-12/STM-4) configurations, supports an extensive list of DSn, Sonet, PDH and SDH features, allowing users to perform a wide range of tests from simple bit-error rate (BER) analysis to more advanced network characterization and troubleshooting.

In addition, this module offers an upgradeability path to 2.5 Gb/s (OC-48/STM-16) and 10 Gb/s (OC-192/STM-64) rates, ensuring customers' investments can be leveraged as their future testing needs evolve.

For immediate 2.5 Gb/s (OC-48/STM-16) and 10 Gb/s (OC-192/STM-64) rates, Exfo already offers this functionality through its FTB-8120/8120NG and FTB-8130/8130NG modules, respectively.

Exfo's exclusive SmartMode feature is also available as an option on the FTB-8115 Transport Blazer.

SmartMode provides automatic discovery of the Sonet/SDH signal structure and real-time monitoring of all discovered high-order paths as well as user-defined low-order paths.

As a result, it represents the ideal solution for quick and simple isolation of network faults.

"Sonet/SDH deployments in access and metro networks continue to grow at a strong pace, sparked by increased bandwidth requirements created by new wireline and wireless business and residential access technologies," said Benoit Fleury, Exfo's Vice-President of Protocol-Layer Product Management.

"With this growth, network operators require compact and versatile test solutions to fulfill their increasing day-to-day testing duties.

The FTB-8115 module, designed to operate in the FTB-200 and FTB-400 field-test platforms, can be combined with a wide range of optical and protocol test modules (OTDR, Optical Loss Test Set, PMD Analyzer, Chromatic Dispersion Analyzer, Optical Spectrum Analyzer, Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel testers, etc) to address all critical test requirements in order to quickly and efficiently turn up, maintain, and troubleshoot DSn/PDH and Sonet/SDH circuits in access and metro networks.".
