IPTV quality-of-service (QoS) test capabilities have been introduced by Exfo for its Packet Blazer Ethernet products.

Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering announced the release of IPTV quality-of-service (QoS) test capabilities for its best-of-breed Packet Blazer Ethernet product line This IPTV software option, now available on the newly released FTB-8510B Ethernet Packet Blazer, offers unique test capabilities including media delivery index (MDI), program clock reference jitter, stream rate metrics, bandwidth utilisation and IP metrics on up to 255 simultaneous MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 media streams

Additionally, Exfo's IPTV offering is the only test solution that integrates complete carrier-grade Ethernet capabilities into one product, providing customers with a powerful analysis tool for full transport-layer and service-layer testing.

The IPTV software, coupled with the FTB-8510B Packet Blazer, is housed inside Exfo's industry-leading portable modular platform, the FTB-400 Universal Test System, for field applications.

Similarly, this solution is available on the IQS-500 Intelligent Test System for lab and manufacturing environments.

Exfo's IPTV test and measurement strategy builds on the success of the CoLT-450P xDSL Triple-Play Test Set that set the standard for IPTV, DSL and, most recently, VDSL testing for broadband access applications.

Now, with the addition of IPTV test capabilities on the Packet Blazer, Exfo is extending its IPTV test capabilities from the edge into metro and core networks.

Consequently, network service providers can now rely on a single trusted source for all their IPTV testing needs to support the complete video deployment cycle from service rollout - including Ethernet transport validation - to troubleshooting and monitoring.

"Exfo is committed to providing customers with the best tools in the IPTV network performance test industry, which is undergoing accelerated growth as operators proceed with major deployments around the world," said Etienne Gagnon, Exfo's Vice-President of Protocol and Optical Product Management.

"With the IPTV test suite on the FTB-8510B Packet Blazer and CoLT-450P Triple-Play Test Set, we are now offering cost-effective, high-performance test solutions to measure QoS from the core network to the home.".
