The AXS-110 OTDR for access and enterprise network testing has been announced by Exfo Electro-Optical.

Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering announced the AXS-110 OTDR for access and enterprise network testing This lightweight, handheld OTDR, which builds on Exfo's leading technology and market share in optical time-domain reflectometry, has been designed with the new reality of field technicians in mind

The new AXS-110 OTDR is specifically intended for technicians who must transition from copper to fibre testing with the benefit of little or no training, thus making its high performance and simplicity key benefits.

As part of the AXS-100 OTDR Series, it boasts an unmatched high resolution (event dead zone) of 0.8 meters for easy identification and characterisation of events, which is critical for characterizing short links as there are numerous connection points along them.

As well, a single touch of the FasTrace button enables the capture of OTDR traces for maximum simplicity and user-friendliness.

The All-fibre AXS-110 OTDR model characterizes both 50 and 62.5 m m multimode and singlemode fibre for enterprise, campus and access network test applications.

It can test through high-port-count splitters - even 1x32 splitters - for passive optical network (PON) testing.

It is also ideally suited for certification of premises networks with pass-fail features that comply with industry standards like TIA 568c and IEEE 802.3ah.

The other configurations, namely the AXS-110 Singlemode OTDR and AXS-110 Multimode OTDR, are optimised for access and enterprise network testing, respectively.

Exfo's latest OTDR series can be equipped with a number of value-added options, including a power meter, visual fault locator, fibre inspection probe, IP tester and printer, to create a complete handheld test set.

This OTDR offering supports 850 nm, 1300 nm, 1310 nm and 1550 nm wavelengths with respective dynamic ranges of 24 dB, 25 dB, 32 dB and 30 dB.

Exfo's new OTDR series will be showcased at CeBIT 2007 from March 15-21, 2007 in Hannover, Germany.

It will also be presented at OFC/NFOEC 2007 from March 27-29, 2007 in Anaheim, CA.

"Exfo has long held a leadership position in OTDR characterisation and this latest handheld series should help us increase our market share in this area," said Etienne Gagnon, Exfo's Vice-President of Product Management and Marketing.

"Once again, we have found a way to help our customers reduce their costs and increase their productivity with the introduction of a rugged handheld OTDR that can handle both access and enterprise network applications.".
