Over a period of just one year, an office of 100 PCs can save up to GBP 10,000 by introducing a simple 'power management' policy, rising to a saving of GBP 100,000 for a company with 1,000 computers.
Using more energy than all other office equipment combined, computers and monitors present an enormous opportunity to save money: * 50% of office energy usage is electricity consumed by PCs.
* Half that energy is wasted because: * 63% of computers and monitors are left on at night.
* 44% of monitors are not enabled for 'power management'.
"Keeping a tight lid on operational costs is vital, particularly in the tough economic climate.
And yet UK companies are burning their profits on something as simple as turning PCs off.
The money being lost is nonsensical and the damage to our environment appalling," explains Sumir Karayi, founder and CEO, 1E.
Computers left powered on contribute significantly to the accumulation of CO2 in the atmosphere.
A PC switched on 24 hours a day will emit up to one ton of CO2 every year.
More efficient use of computers plays a vital role in controlling the social and economic effects of Global Warming resulting from greenhouse gases like CO2.
IE has developed a solution to the 'power management' problem - NightWatchmanTM 2.0.
NightWatchman automatically controls the power state of all computers within a business from a single location, ensuring that PCs are closed down when not in use and turning them on overnight for maintenance as appropriate.
By automating these tasks every night, organisations save on electricity bills; administration time; ventilation and cooling system costs and their effect on global warming.
"Even when reminded, employees will always forget to switch off their PCs or may not be around to do so.
NightWatchman allows you to control all aspects of shut down and will even save open documents so the employee never loses data.
Efficient 'power management' is now one of the easiest ways to make a major saving in business today," adds Sumir.
"Shutting down a large number of PCs is normally a complex logistical operation.
With NightWatchman, PCs are more manageable and IT support staff spend less time on day-to-day troubleshooting problems." Today, NightWatchman is the most comprehensive Power Management solution available for Windows NT, 2000 and XP.
