Cost-effective manufacturing software chosen

An Eyelit product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Dec 21, 2007

A software suite comprising integrated manufacturing execution, quality management and factory automation has been selected by a solar panel manufacturing plant.

A producer of highly efficient thin film solar products, HelioVolt, has selected Eyelit's Enterprise Manufacturing Execution Suite (MES) to provide a cost-effective manufacturing software infrastructure for its global manufacturing network.

Eyelit specialises in manufacturing software for visibility, control and coordination of manufacturing operations for the aerospace and defense, electronics, life sciences, semiconductor and solar industries.

The Eyelit software provides icomplete tracking of serialized PV glass panels, completed solar panels, associated consumables, raw material and inventory management, and tool tracking.

Eyelit's Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) FactoryConnect middleware will provide XML based connectivity for factory automation, OPC layer communications and tool interfaces, as well as RFID interfaces.

To support and enable HelioVolt's manufacturing strategy, Eyelit's Lean Scheduling module, provides kanban management, queue management and visual indicators of line performance.

HelioVolt will also be utilizing eyelit Quality Management for experiment management, non-conformance, return material (RMA), and routing change electronic sign-off.

"We reviewed 12 MES vendors and selected Eyelit because of Eyelit's flexibility, speed of implementation and integrations capabilities.

Eyelit's experience, knowledge and understanding of Photovoltaic (PV) solar panel manufacturing was also an advantage.

I've worked with other MES solutions in the market today and know from first hand experience the complexities involved with each implementation.

As the project continues to progress, my opinion of Eyelit's solution has only improved." said David Greer, director of IT for HelioVolt.

"With HelioVolt's recent selection of Eyelit, solar panel manufacturers continue to see Eyelit as the leading solution for their MES and Quality solutions.

Our product suite is a great fit for the solar industry providing complete product traceability from the front end (process) through completed solar panel (assembly).

Some people still have trouble believing how quickly Eyelit's solution can be deployed.

Unfortunately, the legacy MES solutions in the market today continue to paint an inaccurate picture because of their limitations.

By leveraging modern technology and using sound implementation methodology, Eyelit has changed the traditional product and deployment model," stated Dan Estrada vice president of Eyelit's Sales and Business Development.
