Compliance approach takes the risk out of RoHS

A Farnell product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jan 24, 2006

Farnell InOne is now offering nearly twice as many SKUs under the 'RoHS Trusted' BSI Kitemark when compared with its nearest competitor, says the company.

Farnell InOne, the number one source for RoHS compliant products and information, is now offering nearly twice as many SKUs under the 'RoHS Trusted' BSI Kitemark as its nearest competitor.

Farnell InOne is able to assure such a market leading number of compliant products due to its unique approach to RoHS and its stringent policy of changing part numbers to clearly segregate compliant and non-compliant stock even where the manufacturer has not changed them.

Farnell InOne provides a certificate of compliance for each RoHS compliant product made available after an exhaustive due diligence process.

A complete audit trail for each product, rigorous risk assessments for suppliers, random product testing, and the request for independent test results from higher-risk suppliers mean that customers can be confident that every individual component will have been through a stringent and rigorous process to confirm it is RoHS compliant.

Gary Nevison, head of Product Market Strategy at Farnell InOne, explains: "Farnell InOne believes that going the extra mile is essential so that we can put our customers' minds at rest.

Our commitment to RoHS compliance goes way beyond the industry standard.

Distributors who are not changing part numbers and so may be holding stock in mixed bin locations are going to be leaving engineers unsure of whether they are using compliant or non-compliant products in design.

Farnell InOne's rigorous approach enables us to offer customers a much greater degree of certainty." Comparisons have been made between products denoted as RoHS compliant in the Farnell InOne UK online catalogue compared with products denoted as RoHS compliant in the RS Components UK online catalogue as at Thursday 19th January 2006.

At this time, our analysis highlighted 45,281 products offered by Farnell InOne as stocked RoHS compliant compared with 23,147 offered by RS Components as stocked RoHS compliant.
