has introduced QualiLine-G for in-line quality control during glass tube manufacture.

Fully integrated into the production process, QualiLine-G provides real time feedback to allow adjustment of the furnace and tube production system, thus reducing waste and lowering costs.

QualiLine-G uses a novel, laser-based optical inspection technique to enable glass tube thickness and other parameters to be measured according to Six Sigma guidelines.

This new system is of particular interest to light source manufacturers although it can be used with any transparent tubing.

Glass tube emerging from the furnace passes through a measurement station at speeds up to 3m/sec.

Simultaneous measurements are made by 3 inspection heads arranged around the tube.

These include wall thickness and siding (the difference between the maximum and minimum thickness values at a given section of the tube).

With a sampling rate of 25 measurements/sec, real time data is collected and processed by an industrial PC then fed back to the production system.

In this way, as any of the measured parameters deviate away from the accepted tolerance levels, the furnace operating conditions can be automatically adjusted to maintain a stable production environment.

Data can be stored and used for product certification.
