The most advanced systems for quick die-coupling, safety control, automation, anti overloads and microinching are included in an, automated tandem press line installed at a UK automotive plant.

Fagor Arrasate, Spain, has recently installed a very modern and extremely advanced line of robotised presses in the United Kingdom, specifically, in the Vauxhall - General Motors Ellesmere Port plant.

The new line has five presses.

The head press has a capacity for 22,500kN (2250 tonf) with a 4500 x 2400mm bolster.

It is a single action link press with a smart computerised hydraulic cushion.

Its travel is 1000mm., its closed height 1550mm and supplies 800kJ of energy.

The cushion has a capacity for 4500kN (450 tonf) and it has pre-acceleration and other advanced functions.

After this press, there are four 10,000kN (1000 tonf) presses with bolster dimensions of 4500 x 2400mm, 1000mm travel and a closed height of 1500mm.

These presses supply 400kJ of energy.

They are eccentrically driven presses.

All the machines have the most advanced systems for quick die-coupling, safety control, automation, anti overloads and microinching.

They also have quick automatic clamping, scrap removal systems and cushions in the carriages.

All the line is automated with high-speed part transfer robots.

The control is very powerful based on several interconnected PLCs that guarantee integral monitoring, EC safety, self-diagnosis, telediagnosis, and production control.

The order was achieved in tough competition with German and Japanese manufacturers.

The installation has been manufactured and installed successfully in a very short period.
