Cut-to-length line works high strength steels

A roto-oscillating slitter, cut-to-length line is capable of processing high resistance steel in widths up to 1850mm and thicknesses up to 2.8mm and at speeds up to 80m/min.

Fagor Arrasate, one of the world leaders in the manufacturing steel and aluminium cutting lines, is achieving great success in Russia.

A wonderful ceremony was held at the end of April, 2007, for the opening of a roto-oscillating slitter, cut-to-length line supplied by Fagor to DIPOS.

The entire board of directors of the service centre, political and industrial authorities of the region of Ivanovo, a delegation from the Spanish Embassy in Russia, headed by the Commercial Counsellor and representing Fagor Arrasate, Marianna E Janweldt, Roberto Fernandez, and Jose Julio Heriz attended the event.

This installation is capable of processing high resistance steel in widths up to 1850mm and thicknesses up to 2.8mm.

The maximum speed is 80m/min and up to 160 blanks/min can be cut.

The input coils can weigh up to 20,000kg and the greatest length of the blanks can be 3500mm per station.

However, as the stacker has two stations, they can work together to process batches up to 7m long.

The stacker is a start/stop electromagnetic one to guarantee high quality edges that can be laser welded.

Over recent months, Fagor Arrasate has obtained orders to the amount of around EUR 30 million in Rusia, making it the largest Spanish exporter of machine tools to that country, a position it already holds in other markets.

Not only this but that, moreover, Fagor Arrasate has been chosen to supply very advanced cutting lines with a new level of quality and performance in the Russian iron and steel sector.

The orders have been won under tough competition with German, Japanese, Italian and North American suppliers.

Thus, Fagor will supply two large coil-processing installations to the steel producer, OMK, which has several plants.

It is a slitting line to cut high resistance steel up to 13mm thick and a cut-to-length line for similar types of materials.

These are high capacity production systems that can already treat around half a million tonnes a year, which gives an idea as to their magnitude.

The coils will be up to 36 tonnes and the width of the band can reach up to 1800mm.

* Service centre installation - Fagor will also supply a cutting line to a large service centre in the north of Russia.

It is a cut-to-length line with a rotary shear capable of cutting up to 200 blanks/min in high resistance steel.

It is going to be one of the fastest lines in the country.

It can cut steel up to 4mm thick.

In another project, Fagor will install a slitting line for 20 tonne coils, and, also, 4mm thick.

In another iron and steel centre some 1500km from Moscow, Fagor will install two new lines with a rotary-oscillating shear that can produce not only rectangles, but also trapeziums, triangles, curved sided formats, chevron and ribbed formats, etc.

The rotary oscillating shear is a design patented by Fagor that has signified a revolution in the cutting of format in the last three years.

Finally, the automobile company AutoVaz will receive a press with a capacity for 16MN (1600 tonf) and a ram stroke of 500mm.
