Reconstituted Faraday Plastics, the UK's plastics research and development centre, has appointed two new posts of technology translators in order to boost its operations over the next three years.

The newly reconstituted Faraday Plastics, the UK's plastics research and development centre, has appointed two new posts of technology translators in order to boost its operations over the next three years Jan Czerski and Nikki Dale take up their positions with immediate effect

Both bring a wealth of differing expertise to the Faraday Plastics project.

Richard Simpson, Faraday Plastics director notes that 'the Faraday Plastics technology translator job is a challenging and creative role that not only requires the skilled construction of opportunity between UK academe and UK plastics but also requires that these opportunities successfully make their way forward to the marketplace.

I am delighted that both Jan and Nikki have joined us since they both have the qualities that are likely to make this happen.' Czerski is well known to the UK plastics industry.

Based in the NorthWest he is a qualified polymer technologist with 32 years industrial experience that includes: technical services with Shell Chemicals, production management with WCB Plastics and marketing management with BASF plc.

Latterly Czerski has been consultant to a number of organisations including the Institute of Materials, BPF, DTI, NEPCO and others.

His industrial expertise and contacts will be invaluable to Faraday Plastics in matching UK University expertise to the needs of the plastics sector.

'We need to bring on the UK universities,' says Czerski- in relation to his new role.

'Faraday Plastics is in the business of mixing and matching all kinds of plastics based companies to best kind of university research that list likely to profit them.

Via our universities, there is a world of excellent UK research resource out there for those firms that care to look for it.

My role is to help those pro-active companies track it down and I would be delighted to hear from them.' Nikki Dale joins Faraday Plastics from MERL, the Materials Engineering Research Laboratory.

Previously with DERA, the Defence Research Agency, Nikki has a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College and over the past year has applied her scientific expertise to a range of projects, including materials development and evaluation, chemical exposure, life prediction and durability, composites and polymer recycling.

Nikki's experiencing of the scientific and research worlds will be invaluable to Faraday Plastics in seeking out the various academic sources of expertise.

The approval of the new Faraday Plastics business plan - and funding for the next three years - gives companies in the UK plastics sector until spring 2006 to be able to continue to attract plastics technology development funding.

Lord Sainsbury, Government Minister for Science and Innovation recently paid tribute to the work of Faraday Plastics saying that it had 'already helped add some coherence to the disparate and fragmented activities that are taking place in this sector.

Faraday Plastics has helped facilitate better collaboration between different universities.

And it has helped stimulate new products and processes, new patents, and new start-up companies.' As part of its resurgence, Faraday Plastics has a new, independent and high profile chairman in Professor Tony Ledwith, former chairman of the EPSRC.

Faraday Plastics has also selected a number of priority areas for the next three years: These are energy; recycling and sustainability; nano and smart materials; healthcare and automotive applications.
