Fastems has announced new initiatives in 2006 to expand its operations in the UK and the USA and has appointed Steve Malone as UK sales manager, reporting to main board of directors, Finland.

The Finnish manufacturer of multi-level, automated storage and retrieval systems for machining centre pallets, Fastems, has announced new initiatives in 2006 to expand its operations in the UK and the USA As of 13th March, 2006, Steve Malone has been appointed UK sales manager, reporting to the main board of directors in Finland

He was until recently in a sales role within a multinational manufacturer of prismatic machining equipment and transfer lines.

The UK firm formerly operated as a division within the Helvar-Merca Group, but on 1st January 2006, the business was incorporated in the UK and has since traded as Fastems, based at the same location in Dartford.

The change consolidates Fastems' presence in this market and is a reflection of the success the company has enjoyed since it started operations in the UK in 1999.

There are now over 30 Fastems flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) in the UK based on pallet storage systems.

Turnover in 2005 was more than 50% up on the previous year and one third ahead of target, helped by two large orders from the aerospace sector.

Malone takes over from Robert Humphreys who, along with three engineers from Finland, is moving to support the new Fastems subsidiary in the USA, which was also set up on 1st January.

Called Fastems LLC, it is based just north of Cincinnati and takes over sales and support of new systems from the previous distributor, as well as supporting the 40+ Fastems FMS already installed across the USA.
