Systems orient and feed container caps

A Feeder Caps product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jun 27, 2005

The perfect integration between a mechanical and vibrating orientating system that gives you the right technical solution to all orientation and feeding problems of components.

For over 15 years Feeder Caps has built and sold rotary mechanical orientators for metal and plastic caps, as well as batchers, aerosols, sprayers and bottles, which represent the true core of the Company's business.

This company is part of the 'Tecno Vibrazioni Group' (a manufacturing company of vibrating orientators), and from whom it inherited the spirit and perseverance necessary to market an innovative product, in terms of potential and flexibility, both of very high quality and reliable.

The prefect integration between a mechanical and vibrating orientator allows the Group, employing around one hundred and twenty people, to offer the correct technical solution to problems regarding the orientation and feeding of parts.

The know-how gathered over the years, together with organisational flexibility, has allowed the company to become an important market leader in the bottling, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, foodstuffs and mechanical industries.

The machines it produces are delivered to France, Spain, United Kingdom, Germany, Eastern Europe, India, North and South America.

Outside Italy, the network of agents extends throughout Spain, Germany, Holland, Greece and the UK.

The managing and sales director, Norman Rubini, explains: "Despite a slowdown in productivity over the last few years, Italy continues to be an important market for our production." He goes on to say "The data available to us illustrates a increasingly competitive market, where the merger of companies has given life to multinationals trying to maintain their budget levels".

"However, our company boasts of a situation that is bucking the trend, since we have increased rather significantly our turnover in the past few years." The foreign market is however an objective reality we must face each day.

"Our export rate has reached significant figures," continues Rubini, "Equalling and on occasions exceeding the Italian market".

"In Europe, it is interesting to note a considerable change in the Spanish market (an important platform for us together with Germany), which has shown strong industrial growth in recent years".

"Dwelling a moment on the global market, I must mention the importance of the Eastern European market".

"One on which we have been working for some time to create commercial bases, without neglecting China that is a thriving market in which we must invest." * Less orientation and handling costs - the aim to cut costs and reduce orientation and handling times has motivated the company to develop state-of-the-art and increasingly efficient systems with production speeds that reach hundreds of pieces per minute.

Owing to an integrated organisational structure and continuous research in technological innovation of production lines, Feeder Caps is able to meet any application need".

""I firmly believe that despite the fact standardisation offers important economies of scale," explains Rubini".

""The ability to understand, in the best possible way, the needs of the customer, customising technology, both the sustainable method as well as from an economic point of view".

"We do our best to understand our customers' needs and potential and manufacture custom-made systems".

"The facts are the best possible way to illustrate this type of choice: since 1990, the year the company was established, till now we can boast of continuous growth both in terms of our turnover and client base".

"Not forgetting that many of our systems are installed worldwide, from the most industrialised countries to emergent countries in Eastern Europe and Asia." Of course, "creating ad hoc production systems often creates considerable technical problems for our team," continues Rubini "but on the other hand for our clients owning a totally customised system, capable of adapting in the best possible way to their production needs, means having a competitive advantage, at a technological level, that a standard system simply cannot offer".

"Now and again, therefore, our Technical Department has to adapt to the different requests and all the projects go through a testing phase that often leads to modifications being made to the basic systems to create interesting developments with an excellent productive performance." * The machine's technical features - the GRROT cap orientator system is the pride of the company, resolving the problem of orientation of the opening of the flip top cap in a single way.

The company is a leading manufacturer of this type of system, capable of reaching a production rate of 350 pieces/min.

There are also other feeding systems with an important position within the product range, namely those for sprayers and bottles.

Both systems can be used in the pharmaceutical, chemical and cosmetic industries and can operate with large size bottles (up to 1000ml).

A separate matter are the sprayers, which can be orientated not only with capillary tube hanging vertically, but also with trigger positioned always on the same side, for a production of 250 pieces/min.

Both the external and internal parts of all the feeders in the range can be built of AISI 304 stainless steel, whereas the selector sections are made of polyethylene.

The motorisation is equipped with a safety clutch with power-operated variable-speed drive, to apply the most suitable rotation speed.

To meet each need, the systems are available with quick release segment changeovers, without the need for wrenches or additional tools, allowing the sectors to be replaced more easily and quickly.

This characteristic makes each type of operation easy and effortless, also for the user.

All the systems can be built using different types of material to satisfy the numerous standards that regulate the various industrial sectors and perfectly adapt to the piece to be selected.

* Investments in research and development - despite the fact production is essentially hinged on mechanical feeders, a mention must be given to an entire range of centrifugal version feeders.

Besides these, there are always new projects in the works, and following the development of our latest cap orientator system, "One of the few systems on the world market for this type of application, we are already thinking of other solutions," announces Rubini".

""The continuous research in the technological and technical fields is leading us towards a project that, together with the cap system, could be the complete answer to the increasing requests to orientate items of different shapes and materials." The company pursues a production and commercial strategy directed at building custom-made systems, making use of auxiliary components such as adjustable support benches, load elevators, mechanical conveyor belts and/or air conveyors and is capable of customising any system.

This path of customisation is one that we will continue to pursue in the future".

""Our versatility and open mindedness to new technologies and research will undoubtedly lead us to stumble upon increasingly vaster fields, thus making us an active leader in development and scientific and technological research," concludes Rubini.
