A triple-action fineblanking and forming press has extended tool table (bolster), the length of which has been almost doubled to increase the number of parts produced per stroke.

Feintool Fineblanking Technology, working in close cooperation with long-standing customers, has developed a new fineblanking press that helps to significantly reduce unit costs The flexible and innovative press breaks fresh ground in tool design and expands the range of applications for fineblanking technology

This press - the HFAplus LT with extended tool table - iwas unveiled at the EuroBLECH 2006 fair.

* Innovations for the market - the HFAplus LT was designed for a wide range of applications right from the outset.

To ensure that the press corresponds to actual requirements, close contact was maintained with our fineblanking customers throughout the development process.

Hence the positive verdict when the first LT press was rolled out before a number of key clients.

In its basic design, the new LT is essentially the same as Feintool's ex-tremely successful HFAplus range; in other words it is a triple-action fineblanking and forming press.

A key feature of the HFAplus LT is the extended tool table, the length of which has been almost doubled.

This increases the number of parts produced per stroke and the number of cutting orders per tool.

As a result, production costs per part can be reduced and the range of fineblanking applications expanded.

The die space has been designed in such a way as to permit customization, thus also enhancing flexibility.

The decisive features here are the significantly greater hydraulically active areas of the vee-rings and counterforce rams.

In terms of flexibility, this is a quantum leap forward for tool designers.

* Tried-and-tested, reliable Feintool technology - to guarantee reliability and strong performance right from the outset, the HFAplus LT uses many assemblies from the successful HFAplus presses.

This also ensures it offers the same high stroke rate as the HFAplus.

From the perspective of operators and maintenance engineers, the new press slots seamlessly into the existing range, thereby facilitating rapid, trouble-free introduction.

Existing tools can be used in all versions, a feature that not only enables production departments to plan more flexibly, but also represents an important factor as regards cost-efficiency.

The following tool types can be used.

Existing complete or progressive tools.

Modular tools.

* Technical innovations - having a double-length tool table means that higher eccentric forces have to be absorbed.

Thanks to a number of innovations in the vee rings and counterforce ram design, the HFAplus LT can accommodate substantially higher loads than conventional presses.

Its substantially larger dimensions have not impaired tool protection sensitivity.

Despite its imposing appearance, the LT press is a remarkably sensitive fineblanking system.

The new press is available in four different power ratings ranging from 4,500kN to 11,000kN.

* New perspectives in tool technology - LT presses offer the following three advantages as regards tool technology.

Increased productivity.

New tool designs.

Lower parts costs.

The most obvious advantage of having larger tools is the increased number of parts produced with each stroke.

Since LT presses have the same stroke rate as their standard counterparts, their output is raised by a factor determined by the additional tool size.

The extra space provides greater scope for improving part layout, which in turn saves direct material costs.

The current common practice of combining several operations into one process step is essentially an invention of necessity because maximum tool size is restricted by the press's die space.

With the HFAplus LT's extended table, it is now possible to break down complex single-step operations into several steps.

This simplifies tool design, manufacture and maintenance as well as reducing costs in all three areas.

It also makes tools less prone to faults and increases their service lives.

The potential for specific applications is huge and will give parts manufacturers crucial price and technology advantages.

* Modular tool at EuroBLECH 2006 - Feintool displayed a 'virtual' part from a seat adjuster at EuroBLECH in Hanover.

The tool is of modular design.

The advantages of modular tools are as follows.

By exchanging individual modules it is possible to produce different part variants with the same tool.

If a fault occurs it is only necessary to remove the affected module.

A lot of parts are getting smaller, which simplifies tool manufacture.

Smaller sizes simplify tool maintenance.

The tool on display at the fair featured several innovations.

For example, parts are transported individually and detached from the scrap without the need for additional handling equipment or compressed air.

All wear parts can be changed in installed state or by removing the appropriate module.

* Doubled output and approximately 20% lower parts costs - by increasing the number of parts per stroke and making various modifications to the tool, output of the parts on display at EuroBLECH is twice what it would be with a standard press.

A detailed cost calculation shows that the new press and tool technology is capable of reducing parts costs by around 20%.

This is undoubtedly the strongest argument in favour of the new press.

In addition to yielding direct benefits for parts manufacturers, this pack-age of innovations once again proves that Feintool is the technology leader in fineblanking and forming.
