Electrical boom axius extends handling
range
An electrical boom axis featuring high mechanical rigidity and a new series of servomotors offering a wide torque range extend a handling system range even further and reduce vibrations.
Festo has announced two significant product introductions that extend its handling range even further: a new electrical boom axis featuring high mechanical rigidity; and a new series of servomotors offering a wide torque range The new Festo boom axis, type DGEA, comprises an ultra rigid extruded alloy body, toothed belt drive, roller bearing guides and a flat drive head design to reduce vibrations, making it ideal for cantilever motion positioning applications requiring a high dynamic response

Festo Sponsors Engineering Skills
Festo has again sponsored the UK Skill Mechatronics competition. The triumphant winners were Sharleen Jackson and Dave Rowe of the Warrington Collegiate team.
Available in diameters from 18mm to 40mm and lengths of 10mm to 1 metre, speeds of 2.1 metres/sec can be achieved with payloads up to 50kg.
Each axis can be specified with either stepper or servo motors - or without a motor.
The belt also covers the bearing guide way to prevent ingress of dirt.

Cylinders offer zero rotation under torque
Automation specialist Festo has announced a new range of precision cylinders with integrated guides to offer zero rotation under torque loads and minimal deflection under lateral loads.
The efficient drive principle deploys a fixed pinion in the drive head that operates within an omega-shaped path along the stationary toothed belt.
With the motor and slide fixed, the motion is translated to the boom.
By keeping the motor stationary and moving the boom axis the total moving mass is drastically reduced, allowing faster speeds and shorter cycle times.
An additional significant benefit is in the simplification of the cable management system, resolve and motor cables can be heavy and relatively inflexible therefore there are extra savings to be had in weight, cost and cycle times by using the DGEA axis.
DGEA units are specifically designed to be modular and easy to install.
Using only the simplest of tools like an Allen key and screwdriver, they can be rapidly mounted to other Festo drives, guides and frame components.
Instead of the high cost, effort and resource levels normally required to build and document a custom handling system, the Festo DGEA solution allows customers to achieve this quickly and easily from standard catalogue parts - or even to order the final unit direct as a complete assembly.
Newly supporting the Festo handling products is a series of servo motors, type MTR-AC, designed to offer a wide range of torques from 0.9Nm to 24Nm.
As well as featuring integrated gearboxes and brakes, these motors again adhere to the Festo philosophy of fast and easy installation with the minimum of tools and effort.
Along with rapid coupling and mounting, compatibility with the Festo range of drives is optimised, offering the customer the ultimate in convenient, single-source supply.
Festo also provides calculation software packages to support its new motor and handling products, ensuring the correct specifications and the most efficient energy usage for every application.
The software tools can be downloaded from the Festo web site at www.festo.com.
To meet changing market demands, and fuelled by the goal of achieving a 'no compromise service ethic' commitment, Festo GB is re-aligning its UK business and expanding its Northampton operation to centralise engineering, technology and customer support resources, with a new call centre operation scheduled to go on line in October 2002.
In addition, substantial company-wide IT investments will deliver a future-proof e-commerce and web trading infrastructure, and capitalise on the new pan-European intelligent integrated logistics network.
The Festo Northampton Technology Centre will become the company's UK headquarters. Request a free brochure from Festo ...
