Milling centre - an optimal answer combining speed and rigidity - features a cast iron structure with generously proportioned roller guides for high accuracy and stiffness.

A continuing changing market requires straightforward and effective solutions: the AV166 milling centre is the optimal answer combining speed and rigidity Made in cast iron with generously proportioned roller guides and kinematic chains and a select choice of high quality European standard components; all these combine to give the AV166 enhanced performance

The moving table along the Y-axis ensures maximum stiffness and accuracy and thanks to this design the rigidity is guaranteed in any position of cross travel.

The X-axis is a robust cast iron block with high damping properties and is operated by a motor directly coupled to the recirculating ball screw.

The vertical spindle slide offers two different solutions depending on market requirements, as follows.

* A powerful electrospindle, ideal for high speed machining with HSK63A tool nose.

* A traditional spindle driven by a directly coupled motor for more conven- tional applications with ISO40 or BT40 tool nose.

* The use of Fidia technology for the drives, numerical control and linear scales guarantees the quality and reliability of the system with one-single-source supplier for the customer.

Applications are as follows.

* For the machining of moulds and dies, the AV166 is an ideal partner in terms of performances and price.

* Plastics injection moulds, die-casting and forging dies all benefit from the advantages of high speed milling and Fidia is universally recognized for the ex- cellence of its products and services.

The AV166 milling centre is equipped with the Fidia F0 control that combines ease of use with excellent performance for high speed machining.

Its simple and compact hardware, Linux operating system and Touch Screen user interface give the F0 control a high degree of reliability.

Hardware - user module and CPU incorporated in a single unit and including the following.

* 15in Touch Screen TFT liquid crystal colour monitor.

* Compact 74 key keyboard, mouse, machine tool pushbuttons and potentiometers.

* An 850MHz Pentium III processor, 51MB RAM memory, 0GB hard disk, integrated graphics card and Ethernet board.

* CD-ROM drive and 3.5in floppy disk drive.

* Interface for Fidia XPOWER digital drives.

Operating characteristics include the following.

* Automatic feed control (Look-ahead).

* Automatic check for milling path errors (feed-forward).

* Automatic control of variations in acceleration (stick-slip control).

* Correction of axis positioning and compensation of backlash at reverse of movement.

CNC features include the following.

* Linear, circular and helical interpolation.

* Program rotation/translation.

* 10 origins for each axis.

* Absolute and incremental programming in mm or inches.

* Independent scale factors on each axis.

* Fixed drilling cycles.

* Tool length compensation.

* D tool radius compensation with interference check.

* Continuous, block by block or MDI program execution.

* Cycle resume with optional repeated execution of graphics.

* Text Editor.

* Graphic display of tool path.

* Programming of operating sequences (procedures).

* Advanced ISO programming for defining macros, subroutines and customized cycles.
