Laser tracker for repeatable, accurate
parts.
Prototype Systems, in the United States, has acquired a Faro Laser Tracker to ensure the tools they supply to automotive companies produce repeatable, accurate parts.
When building tooling for the top automotive suppliers in the United States, Prototype Systems relied on three different service providers using a total of six laser trackers As the cost of outsourcing became greater, they needed a way to keep their parts up to customers' high specs

By providing a reverse engineering software module with its laser tracking system, a CMM supplier says its users no longer need to import 3D data from stand-alone platforms.
Precise laser trackers resist harsh environments
Laser tracker devices offer 0.015mm and 0.005mm distance accuracies and also feature an expanded temperature range for greater adaptability to harsh manufacturing environments.
The accuracy of the tool is only half the battle, though.
Prototype Systems also had to be certain that the tools they are supplying to automotive companies will allow them to produce repeatable, accurate parts.
They began weighing the benefit of owning their own Faro Laser Trackers in order to help hold on to these big accounts.
Prototype Systems bought a Faro Laser Tracker to verify the dimensional integrity and repeatability of the tools they build.
Once the tool is built, they verify its integrity by using the ADM Survey command in Faro's CAM2 Measure software.
ADM Survey "targets" are placed on a single part, which is then placed into the tool and the targets are measured using the Faro Tracker.
The part is then taken out and placed back into the tool and the Laser Tracker repeats the target measurements.
After this, they conduct an analysis against the data.
That information allows Prototype Systems to verify that they have built a tool that produces consistent and accurate parts.
Prototype Systems invested in their own Faro Laser Trackers because the cost to continue outsourcing was much greater.
They have saved money by owning their Tracker, and they have increased their job capacity.
Owning the Laser Tracker allows Prototype Systems to offer their tooling service to top automotive producers and grow their business substantially. Request a free brochure from Faro UK ...
