Portable CMM software gets 250 enhancements
There are 250 enhancements in the latest version of portable arm CMM software, including a new user interface that shares a common 'look and feel' with existing software.
Powerful HighRES CAD/CAM added to laser tracker
By providing a reverse engineering software module with its laser tracking system, a CMM supplier says its users no longer need to import 3D data from stand-alone platforms.
We are pleased to continue the relationship by supplying these additional units inside Boeing thanks to our exceptional product line and team support".
The FARO Laser Tracker is a portable, three-dimensional measurement system that uses laser technology to effectively and accurately measure large parts, tooling and machinery within its 230ft (70m) range.
Set on a tripod, it operates by bouncing a beam off a movable, reflective target that is guided along the surface to be measured.

Measurement device adds CAD-to-part analysis
Portable measurement device enables manufacturers to verify that a part meets the CAD file's specs to within 0.0002in - right on the machine that is producing the part.
Measuring arm improves cars' fit and function
Sports car manufacturer is using a measuring arm for reverse engineering and acquiring new data to make the fit and function of the cars better in a more consistent time.
By simultaneously measuring two angles and the distance, the FARO Tracker can pinpoint the position of the target to an accuracy of up to 0.001in (0.03mm).
As a user moves the target from one location to another, the device tracks its location and records position points, compiling a 3D image of the object as a digital file in the software of its laptop computer.
If, at any point, the beam between the Tracker and target is interrupted, its XtremeADM feature instantly reacquires the laser beam and continues measuring.
Besides its many applications at Boeing divisions around the country and other aerospace companies, FARO Laser Trackers are also used in many other industries for tasks where large-scale, high-precision measurement is needed, including aligning robotic assemblies.
