Faro and TeZet speed up tube measurement
TeZet's tube specialised software, TeZetCAD, will be integrated into the ScanArm and FaroArm portable devices for 3D measurement of products such as vehicle exhaust pipes.
Under a recent agreement, TeZet's tube specialised software, TeZetCAD, will be integrated into portable devices for 3D measurementn namely Faro's ScanArm and FaroArm.
Available immediately in Europe, companies such as automotive supplier Automotive Components (ACP) Penzberg, will be able to take advantage of the production inspection benefits that will accrue.
Faro is a leading provider of portable 3D measurement devices and TeZet, in Switzerland, is tube measurement software specialist.
The two companies now have entered into a European technology and marketing agreement.
Divisional head at ACP, Georg Baur, said: "As a supplier of exhaust pipes for construction vehicles, we are very interested in this new solution, particularly because of the level of data quality for bending pipes with a circumference of 150mm and more".
He said: "We can now use laser scanners to measure reproducibility and quality control for freeform bent tubes.
Faro's laser arm equipped with TeZetCAD software allows us to easily generate a tube design in a CAD environment".
Faro told manufacturingtalk that the agreement offers a system for the measurement and correction of tubes of all sizes and forms available to all major industries.
The Faro/TeZet system will measure complex geometries of freeform bent tubes.
At present, TeZet is believed to offer the only software globally that can measure and correct freeform bent tubes.
Area vice president of sales for the UK, France and distribution at Faro UK said: "The agreement with TeZet is very important to us because it allows us to expand our reach into the emerging tube measurement market".
He added: "The new partnership will benefit customers who haven't yet had access to high quality portable laser measurement technology".
* Measuring freeform bent tubes - Faro said that the innovative element of the agreement with TeZet is the ability to measure freeform bent tubes with the Faro Laser ScanArm so that tube benders can actually bend tubes by extracting them graphically from CAD drawings.
Until now, said Faro, the only method that allowed measurement of the reproducibility and quality control for freeform bent tubes was traditional laser scanning.
Users need to collect points and convert the point cloud into polygons or NURBS to generate a tube design on the screen without having any tube data, which is a cumbersome and time consuming process.
TeZet offers a software module for FARO ScanArms that allows automatic calculation of tube data during the scanning procedure.
The user no longer needs to use the complex and lengthy method of converting millions of points in order to extract the tube coordinate and bending data necessary for masterpiece inspection and comparison within the production procedure.
CEO of TeZet, Klaus Leistritz, concluded: "Typical for a Swiss-based company, our mission is to offer precision, quality, software reliability and maximum service.
With FARO we have found a technology partner that helps us to deliver solutions for measuring and automatic generation of the most complicated tube geometries in a user-friendly, menu-guided mode".
* About Faro - with approximately 17,000 installations and 7,600 customers globally, Faro Technologies Incorporated designs, develops, and markets portable, computerised measurement devices and software used to create digital models.
Products also perform evaluations against an existing model, for anything requiring highly detailed 3D measurements, including part and assembly inspection, factory planning and asset documentation.
Faro also deals with specialised applications ranging from surveying, recreating accident sites and crime scenes to digitally preserving historical sites.
Faro's technology increases productivity by dramatically reducing the amount of on-site measuring time, and the various industry-specific software packages enable users to process and present their results quickly and more effectively.
Principal products include the following.
* World's best-selling portable measurement arm - the FaroArm.
* The FARO Laser ScanArm.
* The FARO Gage, Gage-PLUS and PowerGAGE.
* The world's best-selling laser tracker - the FARO Laser Tracker X and Xi.
* The FARO Photon Laser Scanner.
* The CAM2 Q family of advanced CAD-based measurement and reporting software.
Faro Technologies is ISO-9001 certified and ISO-17025 laboratory registered.
