A new easy-to-use Daily Checks handbook from the Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA) is described as a vital weapon in the battle to cut accidents.
In another new initiative aimed at increasing safety standards, the FLTA is introducing this publication to help ensure that daily checks are completed.
According to FLTA chief executive David Ellison, the Daily Checks handbook has been produced to encourage safe practice.
"There is no doubt that the simpler and more straightforward the task can be made, the more likely it is to be completed.
"That's why this latest in our series of operator handbooks contains information designed to be easy to follow - with clear guidance on how every action should be carried out.
"It also assists management with the control of this important safety-related activity".
The booklet gives practical advice on what should be checked and provides a clear, concise check sheet.
It contains 66 pages, each one providing sufficient space for two to three months of daily checks.
There are signature boxes for the operator and his or her supervisor.
Importantly, the booklet, which fits neatly inside a protective plastic pouch designed to be attached to the truck, is competitively priced to encourage widespread use.
The Daily Checks handbook costs GBP1.80, or GBP75.00 for boxes of 50 (plus packaging and postage); plastic protective pouches are available separately.
