Explosive dust extraction costs cut 50%

A Filtermist International product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Nov 20, 2007

As well as cutting an estimated cost of explosive dust extraction by over 50%, a precision engineering company was able to improve its aluminium parts deburring station atmosphere.

Filtermist International helped precision engineering company Parker Precision to improve its workshop atmosphere, whilst cutting the estimated cost of dust extraction by over 50%.

Already a regular user of Filtermist equipment, Parker Precision had oil mist extraction units fitted to all CNC machines.

So the company also consulted Filtermist for dust extraction advice.

Serving mainly the aerospace, satellite, oil and subcontract manufacturing markets, Parker Precision wanted to further improve the health and safety aspect of the workshop by fitting a twin dust extraction system to its fettling and deburring station.

Parker machines components from various alloys including aluminium, and uses pneumatic deburring equipment.

Filtermist told manufacturingtalk.com that it installed a single, indoor dust extraction unit that met all extraction requirements and cost half the price of competing equipment.

Many of the aluminium dust collectors currently available require outdoor locations due to the explosive nature of this dust.

This is because few of these units have the required degree of antistatic and electrically conductive protection needed to conform to ATEX regulations and B1 certification.

Outdoor collectors have an 'explosion relief panel' which makes the unit larger and more expensive than the equivalent model offered by Filtermist.

Many of the competitor's designs also require a separate system for the aluminium dust.

* Multiple dusts collection - Filtermist's TKH model allows the simultaneous collection of multiple dust types, including aluminium.

The unit can remain indoors - leaving walls and ceilings intact.

It conforms to all ATEX regulations and is B1 certified and has a capacity to remove air at rates of up to 300m/h.

Filtermist offers a comprehensive range of dust extraction systems and provide a world-leading range of filters and coolant control products.

It also offers advanced and effective systems to remove of oil mist and other airborne contaminants.

All Filtermist products are supplied with a comprehensive warranty and optional maintenance agreement.
