Emerson executive recognized as top visionary

Berra is among a select group of industry executives receiving recognition in the current issue of START for actively championing the innovative use of technology in manufacturing "Emerson is proud that START magazine has selected John Berra for this recognition," said David N.
Farr, Emerson CEO.
"In the 26 years that he has been a part of the Emerson team, John has been a driving force behind providing expertise and innovative technology to customers around the world." The 2002 Technology Visionaries include 11 CEOs and presidents of software companies that serve the manufacturing community and 50 manufacturing executives who actively pursue technology for their companies.
The START editorial team chose the Visionaries based on research among leading industry manufacturers and suppliers.
Berra helped create three non-profit organizations that have established industry-wide process communication standards - the HART Communication Foundation the Fieldbus Foundation and the OPC Foundation - enabling users to choose the best products for their applications, regardless of the manufacturer.
Born in St Louis, Berra holds a bachelor of science degree in systems science and engineering from Washington University.
He began his career as an instrument and electrical engineer with Monsanto.
Berra joined the Emerson Rosemount division as a marketing manager in 1976 and rose to become president of the Rosemount division in 1991.
Berra became president of Fisher-Rosemount (now Emerson Process Management) in 1997.
Berra currently serves as chairman of the Fieldbus Foundation, and is a past chairman of the Measurement, Control, and Automation Association and a former member of the ISA (The Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society) President's Industry Advisory Committee.
