The FID 2000 integral motor-inverter drive unit has an innovative wireless remote control and parameter setting option, in addition to standard RS 485 communications and fieldbus compatability.

The new FID 2000 integral motor-inverter drive unit from FKI Industrial Drives has an innovative wireless remote control and parameter setting option, in addition to offering standard RS 485 communications and compatibility with a range of fieldbus protocols.

The units also deliver the increased energy efficiency, reduced cabling, guaranteed motor/drive compatibility and easier installation to be expected from a motor- inverter drive combination.

The FID 2000 is supplied with a high efficiency Marelli motor as standard, although other motor options are available.

The inverter unit is also suitable for retrofitting to existing motors where a variable speed option is required.

The basic benefits of using an inverter drive with a motor such as; smooth ramp up of motor speed, constant torque operation and advanced control flexibility are all provided by the FID 2000.

As a replacement for motors that are wired direct on line, the FID 2000 also offers considerable energy savings by providing power matched to demand, rather than on/off full load operation.

In this type of application, the standard FID 2000 can work as a 'plug and play' stand-alone device with 40 factory pre-set drive parameters, including specific pump and fan modes.

Where the FID 2000 sets itself apart from other motor/drive combinations on the market is with the variety of built-in control options available.

They include: optical control using a hand held Data Streamer, a remote keypad operating via a two-wire connection, standard RS485 connection and fieldbus options including Profibus and DeviceNet.

The inverter drive also features a fully integrated brake chopper and resistors, eliminating any additional wiring and improving both safety and performance.

The FID 2000 in standard form is suitable for direct plug-in control.

The Data Streamer allows totally wireless control, programming and diagnostics via an infrared beam and a 360deg prismatic receiver on the drive.

This feature can prove invaluable for awkward to reach placements.

The hand held Data Streamer handles up to 63 drive programs from a single device.

The complete Data Streamer kit consists of a Data Streamer, an infrared Data Port and Data Store Windows application software, allowing drive settings to be uploaded from a drive and downloaded to a PC and vice versa.

The Data Port connects to a PC COM port, enabling drive settings to be saved as Windows data files using Data Store.

Parameters can then be edited on the PC.

Parameter sets can be given user-friendly descriptions, which are also visible on the Data Streamer display screen.

This data can then be transmitted worldwide by e-mail, providing a vital function for OEM manufacturers if assistance is required for fault detection.

A multi-pin control socket is provided on the drive panel giving access to industry standard RS485 communications up to 100m.

Both 2 and 4 wire modes are supported.

Any RS485 controller (e.g PLC, PC etc) can be connected to the FID 2000 via the RS485 link.

Operation and monitoring of up to 63 FID 2000 drives can then be achieved by implementing the FID bus protocol in the RS485 controller.

The FID bus protocol is available from FKI Industrial Drives on request.

A remote keypad option also gives a simple method of communicating with the FID 2000 via the RS485 link.

For use in distributed control environments, a dedicated card within the FID 2000 provides a simple 'drop-in' fieldbus interface supporting a range of communication protocols including Profibus and DeviceNet.

This flexibility makes the FID 2000 ideal for use in any factory or machine application with network control.

High power LEDs on the drive body give an immediate visual check on the status of the FID 2000 when connected to a fieldbus network.

The advantages of this type of networking include eliminating outdated and expensive hard wiring while providing easy access device-level diagnostics.

The FID 2000 range motor/drives are available in power ratings from 0.75 to 7.5kW and frame sizes MA90L to MA132M.

They are ideally suited to applications where high integrity and consistent performance are required, such as conveying systems in the food, packaging and printing industries as well as baggage handling machinery and general fan and pump installations.
