Turning tools developments shown at EMO

UK agent for tooling product suppliers Hommel + Keller, Ifanger, Mikron Tool and Schwanog advises they will show knurling, micro turning, drilling, internal thread whirling developments respectively.

Uk turning tools supplier, Floyd Automatic Tooling, advises that its principals will be exhibiting the very latest cutting tool developments at EMO 2007 in Hanover, as follows (in alphabetical order).

* Hommel and Keller will exhibit its new tool system for knurling straight profiles on small automatic screw machines.

* Ifanger will be demonstrating its MicroTurn system that includes copying, boring, plunging and grooving tools.

* Mikron will be giving its MiquDrill line its world premiere as well as showing its established and successful CrazyDrill line.

* Schwanog will be launching an internal thread whirling tool line as well as an 'Internal' form tool program.

** Knurling straight profiles - the Hommel and Keller tool system for knurling straight profiles on small automatic screw machines iwill fascinate sliding head CNC lathe users.

The very rigid and compact tool incorporates a special bearing and bush combination in the knurling tool head to keep vibration to a minimum.

This rigid tool design enables the end user to increase speeds and feeds without compromising process safety.

An integrated setting spindle substantially reduces time-consuming tool settings by almost 70% as demonstrated in all practical trials.

Further evidence of the user-friendly tool design, are the two setting pins for a correct setting of the clearance angle.

This new RF-LD series can be applied on all CNC type automatic screw machines with shank sizes of 8x8mm, 10x10mm, 12x12mm, and 16x16mm.

The basic holder (8x8mm) can be transformed by mounting different adapters for bigger shank versions.

The modular shank construction provides maximum flexibility and cost-effectiveness.

** MicroTurn system - the Ifanger MicroTurn system comprises a diverse range of cutting tools and corresponding holders for turning operations on fixed and sliding headstock automatic lathes.

The programme of MicroTurn mini-tools for internal turning from 0.5mm diameter is rapidly expanding and at EMO the company will be launching the following: * A boring tool for hole diameters in the 0.5mm range.

* Copying tools with a clearance angle of 47 deg.

* Grooving tools without a rake angle and plunging tools with a radius.

The new tools will significantly increase the already extensive range of Ifanger cutting tools and undoubtedly deliver considerable productivity benefits to the end user, said the company.

Complimenting the extensive selection of cutting tools is an expanding range of tool holders.

The new products include a tool holder designed for back operations as well as a double tool holder to reduce stations and tool changeovers.

These exciting new tools and holders are ideal for users of highly productive Citizen, Star, Tornos and Traub turning centres.

** MiquDrill line - Mikron Tool will be showing at EMO for the first time a range of products specified for small and medium batch quantities with minimal holes per workpiece.

This designation makes the new MiquDrill the ideal compliment to the already established CrazyDrill high-performance product line.

The MiquDrill is available in three formats, as follows.

1 - The centre drills are available in various diameters from 0.5 to 6mm with the smallest drilling diameter starting at 0.1mm while simultaneously performing a 90deg or 120deg chamfer.

2 - The MiquDrill 200 short drill, capable of drilling holes of approximately 2 - 3xD.

As a pilot drill, it guarantees precise execution and achieves the precision needed in deeper hole operations.

Especially designed for micro machining, the drills are available uncoated in diameters down to 0.1mm and coated from 0.3mm.

The short drill product line is offered in 0.01mm increments up to 1.5mm diameter.

3 - The universal new MiquDrill 210 product line is available in increments from 0.01mm to 2mm diameter and subsequently in 0.05mm increments up to the maximum diameter of 3mm.

Alongside the MiquDrill and already available from Floyd Automatic in the UK is the extremely successful CrazyDrill.

This exceptional small drill is suited for the most demanding requirements.

Now available in four versions, each with a geometry optimally suited to the customers' requirements, the CrazyDrill ranges from pilot to deep hole drilling operations in steel, aluminum or stainless steel machining.

The CrazyDrill is ideally suited to large batch runs, multiple drilling operations and difficult machining conditions.

Depending on design, these high-performance drills are available from stock in diameters ranging from 0.4mm to 6mm in 0.5mm increments.

** Internal thread whirling tool line and 'Internal' form tool - with the exceptional productivity benefits they offer, the Schwanog internal thread whirling tool line and 'Internal' form tool programme are destined to be a major success at EMO.

The internal thread whirling tool is currently available from stock with M1 to M5 sizes and this is already proving a major success with the medical industry whilst the 'Internal' form tool programme with its ability to significantly reduce cycle times on long running jobs is guaranteed to bring any manufacturer major productivity gains.

The 'Internal' form tool programme generates the form much quicker than generating internal complex forms.
