Latest tooling developments shown at EMO 2007 included a micro turning system, a drilling range for small and medium batch working and intrnal thread whirling and straight profile knurling.

Among four tooling systems shown at EMO 2007 exhibition by principals represented in the UK by Floyd Automatic Tooling include the following * The MicroTurn system from Ifanger

* The MiquDrill line from Mikron.

* The internal thread whirling line from Schwanog.

* The Hommel and Keller system for knurling straight profiles.

** Micro turning - the Ifanger MicroTurn system has cutting tools for copying, boring, plunging and grooving operations on fixed and sliding headstock automatic lathes.

MicroTurn mini-tools for internal turning from 0.5mm diameter is rapidly expanding.

At EMO the company demonstrated how the new tools can significantly increase productivity for the end user, said Floyd.

** Batch drilling - the new MiquDrill line from Mikron Tool is for small and medium batch quantities with minimal holes per workpiece said Floyd to manufacturingtalk.com.

The MiquDrill compliments the established CrazyDrill high-performance product line.

Available in three formats the MiquDrill consists of centre drills available in diameters from 0.5 to 6mm.

The MiquDrill 200 short drill produces holes of approximately 2 - 3xD.

As a pilot drill, it guarantees precise execution and achieves the precision needed in deeper hole operations.

Especially designed for micro machining, the drills are available uncoated in diameters down to 0.1mm and coated from 0.3mm.

The short drill product line is offered in 0.01mm increments up to 1.5mm diameter while the universal new MiquDrill 210 product line is available in increments from 0.01mm to 2mm diameter and in 0.05mm increments up to the maximum diameter of 3mm.

All of these new developments were very well received by micro machining manufacturers at EMO, said Floyd.

The range is destined to be popular in the UK.

** Internal thread whirling - the Schwanog internal thread whirling line and 'Internal' form tool programme now available from Floyd, was also a huge success at EMO.

The internal thread whirling tool is available from stock with M1 to M5 sizes.

Floyd told manufacturingtalk.com that this product line can significantly reduce cycle times on long running jobs and will bring any machine shop major productivity gains.

** Knurling straight profiles on automatic lathes - Hommel and Keller's tool system for knurling straight profiles suits small automatic screw machines.

Floyd said that the range generated considerable interest from owners of CNC sliding head automatic lathes.

The very rigid and compact tool incorporates a special bearing and bush combination in the knurling tool head to keep vibration to a minimum.

This rigid tool design increases speeds and feeds without compromising process safety.

An integrated setting spindle significantly reduces tool setting.

Floyd said that setting times have been reduced by almost 70% in all practical trials.

Further evidence of the user-friendly tool design is the two setting pins for a correct setting of the clearance angle.

This new RF-LD series can be applied on all CNC type automatic screw machines with shank sizes of 8x8mm, 10x10mm, 12x12mm, and 16x16mm.
