Camera allows easier spotting of
problems

Setting new standards in practical thermography, it is now easier for maintenance staff to determine the relative severity of problems and to spot faults before they become failure.

The new ThermaCAM P60 thermal imaging camera from Flir Systems looks very different to its predecessors and incorporates a range of features that set new standards in practical thermography The P60 makes it even easier for maintenance professionals to determine the relative severity of problems and to spot faults before they become failures

The innovative, palm-sized P60 is the first automated infrared inspection system to work in concert with reporting and database software to automate fully, the process of collecting, reporting and archiving infrared images and inspection equipment.

Weighing less than 2kg - around 30% less than other IR cameras - the ThermaCAM P60 is contained in a rugged, IP54 rated shock-, water- and dust-resistant housing.

It is designed to withstand the rigours of field use.

The P60's Li-ion battery allows for 2 hours of continuous operation between charges and can be conveniently recharged from the mains or 12V car supply.

Providing both thermal and visual imaging, this new top-of-the-range camera features Flir Systems' fourth generation microbolometer detector.

This is responsible for delivering crisp, high resolution 320 x 240 pixel images, fully calibrated for instant and precise temperature measurement.

The camera has a wide temperature range of -40degC to +2000degC and the ability to resolve temperature differences down to 0.08degC.

Individual temperature values can be displayed for each of these 76,800 points and represented in the form of colour-keyed thermal maps and charts to support troubleshooting and fault diagnosis.

Images are stored in JPEG format in the camera's internal memory or on removable multimedia Flash cards.

Supporting later documentation and analysis, stored images can be accompanied by up to 30 seconds of voice annotations per image as well as by freely pre-definable text notes.

Typically these will describe the component, its location or the nature of fault.

Images can be downloaded to the user's PC using Flir Systems' new ThermaCAM Connect software, supplied as standard.

The P60's wide connection options include video output, standard USB, serial and a wireless IRDA interface that provides two-way communication between the P60 and the PC.

A high speed IEE 1394 firewall digital link is available on the ThermaCAM S60 model for high-speed, real-time image transfer.

Complementing the infrared images, a built-in visual camera provides instantly accessible visual images with a 640 x 480 pixel resolution.

Also new to this camera is the built-in Laser LocatIR facility that allows a hotspot to be detected with pinpoint accuracy.

This is particularly beneficial for applications in hazardous environments such as those near high voltage transmission lines.

Images - both infrared and visual - can be viewed through the camera's viewfinder or on a high-intensity 100mm TFT colour LCD display.

The display position is easily adjusted for optimum viewing or can be fully detached enabling the camera to be used where access is restricted.

For maximum operating flexibility, the LCD display also has remote control keys to all important camera functions.

The generation of comprehensive, professional reports is exceptionally simple and quick via Flir Systems' ThermaCAM Reporter PC software.

These can include images, temperature measurements, text and even voice notes.

ThermaCAM Reporter is simple and intuitive to use, with wizard-based operation that allows even occasional users to create professional reports.

Producing a report can be as simple as dragging an image file to the program's QuickReport icon.

Full compatibility with the standard Microsoft Office suite allows the information to be easily shared.

Also available within this latest ThermaCAM family is the P40 that offers most of the P60's functions but excludes the built-in visual camera and LCD.

Another variation, the ThermaCAM P10 has full infrared imaging capabilities without the temperature radiometry of the P60 and P40 models.

Both the P40 and the P10 can be upgraded as the need arises.

"In developing the ThermaCAM P60 we have incorporated many specific features requested by professional users," concludes Guy Pas, Flir Systems Vice President of Eurasia Sales. Request a free brochure from Flir Systems ...

"The result is a unique capability that takes both the power of infrared thermography and its ease of use to significantly new levels.".
