Imaging cameras sort out the hot spots

Finding hotspots on electrification supply equipment to traction rails has been the prime occupation of the two Flir Systems Thermacam PM695 thermal imaging cameras at Infraco Sub Surface - SSL.

Finding hotspots on electrification supply equipment to traction rails has been the prime occupation of the two Flir Systems Thermacam PM695 thermal imaging cameras at Infraco Sub Surface - SSL Within the framework of the company's predictive maintenance programme, they have made a significant contribution to fault finding on a large section of the London Underground network

And now, thanks to their success SSL has just placed an order for a further four units.

"This investment allows us to extend our fault-finding programme," confirmed Signal Performance Engineering Manager, Gavin Dods.

Maintenance schedules already ensure that both traction and signalling circuits are subject to inspection every six weeks but the new additions will provide greater flexibility and improve logistics.

"Two of the cameras will be used by line signalling maintenance engineers," Gavin Dods continues.

"The others are destined for track inspection.

These will principally focus on detecting water ingress through tunnel walls and drainage problems which can disrupt traction and signalling power." The long-term plan will be to mount the Thermacam onto the front of a test train to ensure entire lines have a thermal imaging survey every six months. Request a free brochure from Flir Systems ...
