Portable thermography highlights trouble
spots

Thanks to its investment in portable thermography, a fluorescent lamp maker's product and production hot spots are being identified quickly and efficiently so that it can meet booming demand.

Energy efficient lighting is a hot topic and thanks to its recent investment in portable thermography, SLI's product and production hot spots are being identified quickly and efficiently so that it can confidently meet the booming demand for its low watt/high efficiently compact fluorescent lamps In the FLIR Systems ThermaCAM E series, SLI may have chosen the world's smallest thermal imaging camera but the range of tasks to which is being applied is huge

Notably, this ThermaCAM is also the 100th E series unit to be sold in the UK.

Sylvania is one of the world's largest producers of light sources and manufactures a comprehensive range of lighting products, such as mains voltage and low voltage halogen lamps, fluorescent and compact fluorescent, HID, incandescent, theatre and TV lamps.

The main production site for compact fluorescent products is at Shipley, North Yorkshire.

SLI's ThermaCAM was bought via E series distributor, Proviso Systems, a company whose wide experience in condition monitoring has accounted for a significant percentage of overall UK sales.

Proviso Systems sales manager Peter Gadsby comments "Rather than continue to commission annual thermographic surveys, SLI had recognised the significant potential of owning a camera.

Its evaluation process had also highlighted its wide scope beyond that of standard predictive maintenance work." As SLI's Alan Brooks explains, "Applications for the ThermaCAM will eventually extend from design through production and on to maintenance." At the moment the camera is being integrated into the company's predictive maintenance programme but SLI also plans to use the camera to check process efficiency and in particular the process temperature of the glass in ovens.

It will also be involved in product development and design optimisation.

SLI's experience is a very common one. Request a free brochure from Flir Systems ...

As FLIR Systems' Paul Sacker explains, "Many companies invest in thermal imaging with preventive maintenance in mind but soon find its applications are endless." And he concludes, "the ThermaCAM E Series has proved to be particularly popular as its low cost has brought the benefits of thermography to a much wider range of users.".
