Torch-like infrared camera checks structures
A torch-style infrared camera has 'broken new ground' by making real-time thermal imaging affordable and accessible to a wide range of engineering professionals.
The torch-style ThermaCAM E-series infrared cameras from FLIR Systems broke new ground by making real-time thermal imaging affordable and accessible to a wide range of engineering professionals.
Now the company is taking this concept a stage further by applying this high-quality, low-end camera to dedicated applications.
And the first sector to benefit from this development is building.
The new ThermaCAM B2 thermal imaging camera is a derivation of the proven E-Series and designed to provide a quick and easy, non-invasive method of monitoring and diagnosing the condition of building structures.
It allows the user to image entire rooms, inspect areas that are difficult to access with moisture meters, discover damp behind tiled walls and wallpaper that does not readily water-stain, track leaks to their source and monitor the drying process.
An automatic dewpoint alarm is a standard feature.
A maintenance-free, uncooled 160 x 120 pixels focal plane array detector produces highly sensitive thermal images allowing the detection of subtle temperature variations that can signify moisture in building materials; a colour alarm feature is provided as standard.
The images are displayed on the camera's integral 63.5mm LCD.
Unique to the ThermaCAM E-Series and B2 cameras is TV rate imaging at 50Hz.
This enables large areas or moving targets to be scanned with ease.
To help the operator pinpoint inconsistencies, the built-in Laser LocatIRT acts as a laser pointer, associating the hot spot on the infrared image with the physical target.
Up to 100 images can be stored in JPEG format in the ThermaCAM's memory and downloaded to a PC via QuickviewT software and standard USB or serial cables.
The JPEGs can then be inserted into any word processed document.
The ThermaCAM B2 is one of the new generation torch style cameras with interchangeable lenses.
The choice of standard, wide angle and telephoto lenses greatly extends the application potential of this camera.
Dust- and splash-proof, the ThermaCAM B2 meets IP54 standards and is therefore capable of withstanding harsh industrial environments.
It weighs just 0.7kg, so is comfortable to hold and small enough to be clipped to a belt or stored in a toolbox.
Powering the ThermaCAM is long life Li-ion battery that assures uninterrupted inspections and can be recharged in a vehicle en route to the next job.
Completing the ThermaCAM B2 kit is a transport case, a spare battery with two-bay charger and a training CD.
