Thermography checks tall and long plant

A Flir Systems product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jul 9, 2007

Trying to assess the thermal conditions within a long oven system or tall treatment plant has been simplified by software, which allows imaging from a distance.

When carrying out themal imaging surveys of a long or tall piece of plant, like a large kiln or oven - or a building - it is now possible to do the survey in one, thanks to a recent software development from FLIR Systems.

FLIR's ThermaCAM P640 camera has a 640 x 480 focal plane array which allows small problems to be found at greater distances.

FLIR Systems' Image Builder software stitches images together so that resolution is increased.

Images are taken without the need for the operator to increase camera distance from the target.

Image stitching used in Image Builder ensures that once the image is 'stitched' together it retains its thermal data and can therefore still be analysed in all FLIR Systems' software packages at a later stage.

So with the 640 x 480 ThermaCAM P640 using Image Builder's maximum 3 x 3 grid of images the user has a 1920 x 1440 pixel image - that is almost three megapixels.
