A downloadable Application Note from the Fluke web site explains how to use a rugged, handheld Fluke ScopeMeter 123 to adjust, check and maintain electronic control sensors during the manufacture, installation and operation of machinery in an automated manufacturing environment.

In a single instrument, the ScopeMeter combines all the functions of an oscilloscope and a digital multimeter (DMM).

The Fluke Application Note 'Checking can-making machines with a Fluke ScopeMeter 123' describes measurements such as pulse widths and duty cycle for various sensors on the automated machinery.

Maintenance technicians require the capabilities of an accurate oscilloscope.

The handheld portability of the Fluke ScopeMeter means it can be easily carried direct to the required location.

Its unique 'Connect-and-View' function adjusts the settings virtually instantly to match the input signal and give a meaningful display of the signal's waveform without the need for complex and time-consuming set-up and adjustment procedures.

Measurements from the waveform are selected from a menu with the digital readings displayed above the bright, easily legible, waveform display.

The 600V Category III safety-certified Fluke 123 and 124 ScopeMeters are truly integrated test tools, combining the three most frequently used service tools: a dual input oscilloscope with 20 MHz or 40 MHz bandwidth, a true-rms multimeter and a 'paperless' recorder in one affordable, easy-to-use instrument.

The meters also act as a basic component tester, measuring resistance, capacitance and providing diode test.

The Application Note can be freely downloaded from Fluke's web site.
