Safety system includes Fireray smoke detectors

A Fire Fighting Enterprises product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Nov 27, 2008

Fireray 5000 auto-aligning, auto-optimising beam-type smoke detectors have been provided for a fire safety system by Honeywell Life Safety Austria for a production and storage facility in Poland.

The fire protection system includes 96 IQ8 optical point detectors, 31 transponders, 20 manual call points, 13 sounders, and an IQ8 Control M FACP from Esser by Honeywell.

The 22 Fireray 5000 reflective beam detectors from Fire Fighting Enterprises (FFE) were specifically chosen to protect the high-ceiling storage-production area, where point detection would be inefficient compared to the coverage that beam detectors can offer.

The local installer, Gore-Tech, chose the Esser and FFE products as they can be customised, are certified both locally and internationally, and recognised for their performance around the world.

The FFE detectors were especially suitable for this installation as the building is constructed with steel elements, therefore particularly susceptible to movement and shifting brought about by changing temperature.

The Fireray 5000's auto-align and auto-optimise technology can compensate for this automatically to keep the beam on target and maximise its efficiency, whereas less advanced technology would need frequent manual recalibration.

This increases the functional reliability of the devices in such an environment, while reducing the time, effort and expense of installation and maintenance.

The ground-level remote controller unit also means that settings can be easily changed without the need to climb the 11m high walls to the detector heads themselves.
