Cabling system allows machinery safety equipment to operate in parallel with standard machinery controls on a single network with a common communication protocol.

Machinery safety specialist Fortress Interlocks has launched the AmGard AS-i range of heavy-duty machinery access control products which connect directly to 'AS-i Safety at Work' control networks.

AS-Interface (AS-i) is a new cabling system that allows machinery safety equipment, such as access gate switch interlocks, to operate in parallel with standard machinery controls on a single network with a common communication protocol.

All AmGard AS-i products are suitable for use on Category 4* applications.

Leading-edge chip technology is embedded in the AS-i products.

The system simplifies machinery installation and maintenance, eliminates dual-circuit cabling costs, and provides comprehensive diagnostics.

In addition it enables process and safety sensors to operate on the same network and has a patented error checking system.

The new Fortress As-i products include solenoid-controlled and standard gate switches.

These can be specified with handle or tongue operation, with both formats suitable for fixing to sliding or hinged gates.

Solenoid control is ideal for machinery with run-down cycles.

Tongue operation is ideal for protecting operators needing fast and frequent access to dangerous machinery.

Typical applications for these units include robot cells, tool change and load/unload stations, and process lines.

Override key release enables authorized solenoid override in the event of power failure.

Primary applications for the standard gate switches include access control for conveyor and packaging lines.

All the AS-i products have LED status indicators; AS-i standard M12 quick connect fittings and a common footprint allow control systems to be easily modified.
