The Forum of Private Business (FPB) has cautiously welcomed moves to slash red tape published today (Monday 11 December 2006) in the Department of Trade and Industry's (DTI) Simplification Plan.

Chief executive of the FPB, Nick Goulding, believes that the proposals set out by Secretary of State Alistair Darling are a step in the right direction.

"This is a good first step in achieving simplification of regulation across the DTI.

It is a welcome body of evidence." Goulding highlighted the burden of employment law as top of the list for small and medium-sized businesses.

"In particular, it is crucial that the simplification of employment law is top of the DTI's agenda." However, he warned that unless the pledges are kept under close scrutiny, they will not deliver change.

"Success will only be achieved through the close monitoring of tight targets." * About The Forum of Private Business - The Forum of Private Business (FPB) was formed in 1977 and is a pressure group fighting on behalf of private businesses.
