Report into business support schemes
welcomed
The Interim report from the Conservative's review of business support schemes and quangos has been welcomed by the Forum of Private Business (FPB).
The Forum of Private Business (FPB) has welcomed the Interim report from the Conservative's review of business support schemes and quangos, published on Thursday 15 March 2007 FPB members have consistently endorsed the view that government business support programmes are not fit for purpose and cost too much to deliver
Commenting on the GBP12bn the Conservative report says is spent on business support, FPB Chief Executive Nick Goulding said: "Government spending on business support is notoriously ineffective.
Two alternative suggestions for the Conservatives would be to axe two thirds of the expenditure, keeping only those programmes that can demonstrate their effectiveness.
"They could then spend the savings on major cuts to either employers' National Insurance contributions or business rates, either would have an immediate positive effect on business." he added.
