Socks and pads clean up spills,
machines, best
Maintenance socks are the most cost effective way of containing and absorbing spills of oils, fuels, cutting fluids and coolants, and dispensing pads are best suited for wiping down machines.
Clay granules have long been regarded as the cheapest form of mopping up oil from leaking machines, but in terms of cost effectiveness, other forms of absorbents have taken over For instance, maintenance socks are the most cost effective way of containing and absorbing spills of oils, fuels, cutting fluids and coolants, and dispensing pads (e g, Versirolls) are best suited for wiping down machines

The most complete and complete and comprehensive range of oil and chemical spill prevention and control products to be made available on line has been launched by Fosse Liquitrol.
Water separator reduces oil content up to 6kg/week
Digestion of oil by bacteria can reduce the oil content of separators by up to 6kg of oil/week thus massively increasing the separators' effectiveness and reducing costs of their clean out.
A series of recent independent tests now confirms that contained absorbents or cellulose based absorbent granules like Spilkleen Plus can minimise the risk of machinery damage often caused by traditional clay granule sorbents.
In partnership with leading sorbent manufacturer Fosse Liquitrol, independent lubricant expert David MacDonald of Roil-IT carried out tests that confirm that clay granules, when deployed around machinery to absorb spills, can contaminate lubricants and thus potentially reduce the life of machinery.
David explains, "Deployment of clay granules around machines can quickly contaminate the lubricating oil transforming it quickly into a grinding paste.

Get ready for the Control of Pollution Regulations
Fosse Liquitrol is advising companies to prepare for enforcement of The Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001 that come into effect on 1 September 2005.
Over time, this can lead to the increased wear of critical machine components and systems.
Visual examination of oil will detect particles in the oil down to about 20 microns.
What may appear at first to be clean oil can actually be heavily contaminated with clay dust at particle sizes below 20 microns.
These interfere with the moving parts of machines which typically operate at tolerances below 20 microns." During the tests, a sample of oil taken from the machine surrounded by clay granule absorbents was found to be heavily contaminated with particles from 0.5 to 50 microns.
This oil sample was given an ISO cleanliness code of 20 / 19 / 17.
Standard breather caps on most hydraulic systems do not have sufficient filtration on the air breather to prevent this ingression of dirt.
The dirt wears away at valves, pumps and hoses, causing failures and leaks.
This level of contamination severely reduces the working life of machines.
"The code suggests that this unit will fail in around a fifth of the time it would take if the oil was clean," said David.
Spilkleen Plus is a cost-effective, highly efficient absorbent that has all of the benefits of a loose absorbent without the negative effects associated with lubricant contamination.
The granules have been designed to create a spatial structure that allows for the entrapment of large volumes of liquid - Spillkleen Plus granules are up to three times more absorbent than clay granules.
And if the granules contaminate lubricants, their softer structure will not harm mechanical workings.
Miles Hillmann, Fosse Liquitrol's director added, "Switching to a 'soft' cellulose based loose absorbent such as Spilkleen Plus can deliver several advantages over clay granules.
Even better, absorbent socks, pads and rolls are low-linting, therefore creating little or no dust helping to reduce or eliminate altogether lubricant contamination.
They are clean, easy to use, highly absorbent, fast acting and extremely cost effective.".
