Diecaster increases aluminium shot capacity

A Frech product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Aug 18, 2005

Installation of a 640tonf (6000kN) cold chamber diecasting machine utilises advanced automatic die spraying and metal ladling systems and has robotic extraction and manipulation.

Aluminium high-pressure diecastings up to 5kg are now within the scope of the UK's Kemlows Diecasting Products following the arrival of a new Frech cold chamber machine.

With a locking force of 640tonf (6000kN), the DAK 580 is the largest in the company's aluminium section.

Also included are two Frech DAK 125s and a DAK 450, all fully equipped for cellular manufacturing.

The new machine utilises advanced automatic die spraying and metal ladling systems.

Casting extraction and manipulation is via ABB robotics.

Together with integrated Frech Data control and vacuum casting process, the working cell is state of the art technology.

This all provides guaranteed consistency of complete casting process and component quality.

The investment is the latest stage of a plan to develop and grow the business that was drawn up in 2001.

Over the last four years the emphasis has been on the company's infrastructure - improving all plant services to support the installation of new larger plant and achieving optimum process efficiency.

The name of Frech is hard to miss around the plant, with another four machines from 50 to 125 tonnes in the zinc section.

Most of Kemlows aluminium and zinc output goes to familiar markets - white goods, automotive, electronics, healthcare and garden products; and customers are to be found across the Americas, Europe and China (the latter destination is particularly impressive, now that globalisation is sending so much traffic in the opposite direction).

For managing director Carm Teoli, past experience was enough to justify the decision to place yet another order with Frech.

"We know the machines, we know that they will do a good job for us, and when we need support, we know that Frech UK is on hand and ever willing to do what's necessary," he said.
