High speed VMCs speed mould and die
production

Two high speed VMCs are providing additional capacity at a prototyping company, taking advantage of the machines' highly dynamic performance to produce moulds and dies.

CA Models, based in Stirling, is one of the UK's leading prototyping companies It combines the latest technology with hand skills to offer the complete range of rapid prototyping, rapid tooling and concept model services to its customers in the automotive, motorsport, aerospace and white goods industries worldwide

The company's equipment includes SLA and SLS technology as well as an extensive machine shop.

The Managing Director, Clark Campbell considers CNC machining to be a very valuable rapid prototyping technology, which he needed to expand to provide additional capacity for his customers.

He looked to Pollard to supply two Mori Seiki high speed vertical machining centres, an NVD4000, and an NVD5000, both fitted with Heidenhain TNC i530 controls.

He commented, "A major attraction for us was the new Heidenhain control.

Our engineers are familiar with it, offering us consistency and a short learning curve throughout our machine shop." The Mori Seiki NV series of machining centres have been designed with the manufacture of dies and moulds in mind, offering rapid acceleration and deceleration times as well as high precision.

Campbell concluded, "Combining the ease of use of the Heidenhain and the quality of the Mori Seiki machines will pay dividends in the long run." MACH 2004 - April 19-23 - NEC Birmingham, UK.
