VMCs' vibration-free machining can save
22%
Reduced vibration and increased machining speeds improve surface finish, lengthen tool life and have a positive impact on cycle times - making possible savings of over 22%.
The NV Series represents a major step forward in vertical machining A new design for the machine structure and Mori Seiki's innovative 'Driven at the Centre of Gravity' (DCG) technology combine to minimise vibration

Compact five-axis VMC offers high capacity
For the high speed machining of turbine blades and mould and die parts, Pollard Mori Seiki is offering an extremely rigid and compact, simultaneous five-axis vertical machining centre.
System proves more versatile than pallet shuttles
With experience of radial and shuttle layouts, Plenty was seeking a more compact and versatile system. A Fastems DMC-MD medium duty pallet handling installation provided the answer.
DCG, which won the 24th Japan Society for Precision Technology Development Award, uses two ballscrews on both the Y- and Z-axis of the NV.
Conventional machines only use one ballscrew on each axis.
By introducing two on the NV, out of balance forces are eliminated, enabling the slides to move smoothly in perfect alignment through the centre of gravity of the workpiece.

Compact CNC chuckers offer plenty of power
Pollard Mori Seiki's extremely compact CL Series of CNC chucking lathes offer superior rigidity to support continuous high speed machining of production components.
Long-bed machining centre is built for speed
A substantial three-way guideway system, which supports the longitudinal travel of a moving column, provides theSVL5020 long-bed VMC with plenty rigidity for the high speed milling.
Significantly, Mori Seiki manufactures all the ballscrews itself to optimise quality and control costs.
The highly rigid castings for the machine are the result of extensive research and development using both static and dynamic analysis at Mori Seiki's Californian Digital Design Laboratory.
Optimising the casting design has resulted in increased stiffness with reduced weight.
Additionally, the new concept has produced more machining capacity for the same footprint when compared with other machines in its class.
The spindle on the NV uses a DDS motor.
Eliminating gears further reduces sources of vibration and allows full power to be used at all speeds.
The design results in a compact unit two thirds the size of the previous machine, and acceleration from 0 to 12,000 rev/min within 0.97s, i e, 44% faster.
Achievable feedrates are also quicker, reaching 0.74G along the Z-axis, with metal removal rates up to 672mlitre/min.
To cope with the extra performance, tool clamping power has gone up by 1.5 times to 12,000N while chip to chip times have gone down to 2.6s.
Reduced vibration and increased machining speeds have a positive impact on cycle times.
Mori Seiki tests show that savings of over 22% are possible.
Combining this with improved surface finish and longer tool life through less vibration will make the NV Series a valuable contributor to productivity and profitability.
