Japanese CNC machine tools and systems builder, Mori Seiki, has started full-scale operations at its Chiba Campus Machining Plant (No 2 Plant), which was completed in January 2006.

In the No 2 Plant, the machining of the main structural parts for each model in the NT Series of CNC turning centres in accordance with the production plan, and deliver the finished products swiftly to the adjacent No 1 Plant.
Also, in order to maintain machining precision within the plant, the reception and shipment areas are separated from the machining area, and temperature fluctuations are controlled to +/-1.0 deg C (actually 0.5 deg C).
What is more, the machines' operating status can be checked in real time through a wireless LAN network, and Mori Seiki are making the most of this for monitoring the equipment and drawing up machining schedules and maintenance plans.
Since opening the No 2 Plant Mori Seiki have been able to expand the assembly area in the No 1 Plant.
Their aim is to establish a system which produces 100 machines/month, up from the previous 50.
As well as planning to shorten delivery times Mori Seiki are also making strenuous efforts to reduce the costs of its high-quality machines.
